Chapter 28

Tamatoa's POV

  I smile warmly at Moana as she goes off to her parents. I can now see why Maui thinks so highly of her. Moana's an absolute gem. It's also nice that while we get to hang out with her a lot as a group, she knows to give Maui and I some alone time. It makes her all the more respectable. I have to get used to referring to Moana as a mortal because she no longer is one, she's a demigoddess now. Ah silly, silly me. 

  Maui and I are sitting next to each other on the shore when an idea sparks in my mind. "Hey Maui, want to go for a walk?" He flashes me an adorable toothy grin. "Absolutely." He extends a hand out for me to take in his. I do so gladly and we walk around the shores of Montonui, pausing occasionally to rest. "Tama, can I confess something to you?" I nod. "You know that silly song that you sang to Moana and I when we were on our journey to restore the heart?"" I chuckle at the memory but frown once I remember the true meaning behind it. Maui notices my frown and looks at me in concern. "Hey, hey, hey, it's okay. I was actually going to say your song was so much better than the one I sang to Moana when we first met." 

   I give him a sad smile. "Maybe you could sing your little diddly for me sometime." Maui grins. "I still know it by heart. I could do it right now if you want." I clap my hands together eagerly, indicating that I want him to do it now. Maui takes a deep breath and starts singing: 

Ok, ok, I see what's happening here
You're face to face with greatness, and it's strange
You don't even know how you feel
It's adorable!
Well, it's nice to see that humans never changeOpen your eyes, let's begin
Yes, it's really me, it's Maui: breathe it in!I know it's a lot: the hair, the bod!

I'm just an ordinary demi-guyHey!
What has two thumbs that pulled up the sky
When you were waddling yay high
This guy!When the nights got cold
Who stole you fire from down below
You're lookin' at him, yoOh, also I lassoed the sun

To stretch the days and bring you funAlso I harnessed the breeze

To fill your sails and shake your treesSo what can I say except you're welcome
For the islands I pulled from the sea
There's no need to pray, it's okay

Ha, I guess it's just my way of being me
You're welcome!
You're welcome!Well, come to think of it
Kid, honestly I can go on and on
I can explain every natural phenomenon
The tide, the grass, the ground, oh
That was Maui just messing aroundI killed an eel
I buried its guts
Sprouted a tree, now you got coconuts
What's the lesson
What is the take-away
Don't mess with Maui when he's on the break-awayAnd the tapestry here on my skin
Is a map of the victories I win
Look where I've been
I make everything happen
Look at that mini-Maui just tippity-tappin'Well, anyway let me say you're welcome
For the wonderful world you know

Well, come to think of it, I gotta goHey, it's your day to say you're welcome
'Cause I'm gonna need that boat
I'm sailing away, away

'Cause Maui can do anything but floatYou're welcome!
You're welcome!
And thank you!

  After he's done singing, I'm both entranced with his voice and amused by his antics. "That was lovely babe. For that you deserve something shiny." I slip a shiny necklace around his neck. He bows playfully before pulling me in for a kiss. Needless to say, I'm left breathless afterwards.
