Chapter 31

Maui's POV

 A few days later...

  Tama's all better now but guess who caught his nasty cold, me. Because of this stupid cold, I can't play hero to the people who admire me. Like seriously, I'm me. I've tried to go off and fulfill my duties, but Tama has literally picked me up every time, thrown me over his shoulder, and back into bed. I barked at him the first couple of times, but after that I surrendered. My energy levels are quite low right now. Now I finally understand why Tama was the way he was when he was sick. Though like I took care of him, he's taking care of me now. 

   "Taaammmaaaaa, I'm huuuuunnnnnggggrrryyy." He rolls his eyes and chuckles. "I'll go get you some soup you big baby." Tama kisses my forehead and goes into the village to get me some soup while Moana comes in to baby sit me. I groan. He definitely planned for her to baby sit me. "Hey Mo." I burst into a coughing fit before I can continue. Moana puts a finger to my lips. "Don't speak Maui. Rest your voice. The more you rest, the stronger you'll get and the quicker you'll get better." I sigh. "Yeah, yeah mother I know." Moana giggles. "I'm just looking out for you Maui. Well that and doing a favor for Tama." 

    I give her a small smile. "So how are you Mo?" "I'm good Maui. I've been keeping myself busy with chiefly duties. By the way, I have some good news for you." I raise an eyebrow. "What would that be?" Confidently, she says "I'm finally starting to get over you." Surprisingly, her statement stings a bit. I've been wanting her to move on, but yet now that it's real, I can't help but be a little saddened. I put on a smile so she doesn't think that I'm upset. "That's great Mo. I'm happy for you. The last thing I'd want is for you to be hung up on me. I'm not worth being hung up on." Moana's vibrant smile shifts into a slight frown. "Well to be honest Maui, there's no guy better than you, but I can't keep getting stuck in the past. Hopefully the next guy I fall in love with is at least half of the man you are." 

   Those last few words replay on a loop in my mind. I simply shake off the thoughts and change the subject quickly as Tama walks in with my soup in hand. He smiles at Moana and thanks her for watching me. She smiles at him, gives me a short hug, and makes her way out of the hut. Tama then shuts the curtains and sits down beside me. "I didn't know what soup you wanted so I got chicken noodle. You can't go wrong with chicken noodle." A sudden sneeze comes out and I groan. "Thank you Crab Cakes. I wish you wouldn't get so close to me. I don't want you getting sick again." Tama chuckles. "Babe, you worry too much. Just eat your soup and enjoy." 

   As I eat my soup, I stare at Tama lovingly. He notices me staring after a few minutes and says "What?" I smile at him sincerely. "I love you so much." Tama returns an equally sincere smile. "I love you too you big goof." We talk for a few minutes as I finish up my soup before Tama makes me get some rest. Sleep comes to me quickly.
