Seeking Acceptance

Chapter 23

Maui's POV

A few days later...

The three of us are pulling onto the shores of Montonui and there's a large crowd gathering amongst us. All of them cheer when they see Moana. As soon as I tie the boat up on the dock, Moana goes flying off of it and straight into her parents arms. A tear slips down my cheek and Tama wipes it away. I'm so glad we all have Moana back. The whole island was shattered when the news of her suicide broke out. Though little do her parents know that she has another surprise for them, that being that she's now a demigoddess. For Moana's sake, I'll make sure to be apart of that conversation, that way things don't get out of hand.

Sina and Tui greet me with the strongest hugs I've ever received. Meanwhile with Tama, they simply give him a small nod and smile. He returns the same to them. I frown slightly but quickly mask it up with a smile. I really wish the mortals would stop fearing Tama. He has really changed. He deserves a second chance just like the one I received. Hopefully in time, I can make them see the beautiful man that he really is. After making amends with him, I began to see that he was never truly evil, he was simply misguided, just like I was at the time that I stole the heart. Though when I restored it, all became right in the world and even Te Fiti saw me as a hero.

Speaking of being a hero, everyone keeps chanting my name, making me feel like one, though no one is chanting Tama's. He played an equal role in saving Moana like I did. Not wanting him to be treated like crap anymore, I stand up on a giant rock and shout. Everyone's heads turn in my direction, giving me a feeling of satisfaction. "Hey everyone, listen up. Tamatoa may have been portrayed as a villain for centuries like I was, but he's not a villain. In fact, he never was. He was simply misguided like I was when I stole the heart. Up until then, you all viewed me as a villain too, but after I restored it, I was a hero in your eyes. Please give Tamatoa a second chance like you so kindly did with me. He helped me save Moana as well."

A series of murmurs run through the crowd and everyone nods in agreement. Tui and Sina make their way to the front of the crowd and Tui joins me on the rock. "Maui's right everyone. Unless proven guilty, everyone deserves a second chance. Seeing how Tamatoa helped save my baby girl, I deem him worthy of a second chance." The quiet murmurs turn into cheers, warming both my heart and Tama's as well. I pull him up on the rock with me and give him a warm hug. This all him and I have ever wanted, which is to be accepted by the mortals and find true love. Now we have both.
