Chapter 69

Tamatoa's POV

A few days later...

  Mo and Loi should be on their way home right now. I hope they had a nice getaway, but I'm so happy they're coming home. Even though I only played the role of chief advisor to ease Maui's stress as much as possible, I'm exhausted. Maui and I haven't had a moment to ourselves. Now I can finally see why Mo can be so irritable at times. Being chief is hard and demanding work. I just hope we don't have to do it again for a little while. I glance over at Maui talking to some of the villagers. He catches my eye and gives me a warm smile before making his way over to me. "Hey Tama. What's up?" I pretend to swoon into his arms. His throaty chuckle rumbles across my body. "You're adorable. Seriously though, what's up?"

  I sigh and pout. "Mauuuuiiii, I'm tired. Can we go home and sleep baby?" Maui sighs back in response. "I wish we could but I still have some work to do. I bet you probably due to. Have you finished your catches of the day with the fisherman?" I look at the ground when saying "Mayyyybbbeee" in an exaggerated tone. Maui being Maui obviously can see right through me. "Tama, I love you so much and want nothing more than to be lazy in bed, but we both have work to finish. How about tonight we have dinner, just the two of us? We'll sneak off when no one's looking and go to our secret spot?" I smile at him. "That sounds perfect." I give him a quick peck on the lips and dash back down to the shore. I'm pretty sure Maui's watching me go and to be honest, I absolutely love it when he does that.

That night...

   Maui and I meet in our secret spot. With him, he has a bunch of delicious fruits and vegetables while I have some extra fish. Together we have a feast and gaze at the stars. I notice Maui studying me while I eat. I raise an eyebrow at him. "What is it Maui?" "Do you think Mo and Loi will end up tying the knot?" I shrug my shoulders. "I honestly don't know but I hope so. Loi treats her well and I think they're a nice couple. I'm rooting for them. Are you?" He nods eagerly. "I am. I want nothing more than for Mo to have both the happiness and life that we have. Though if Loi hurts her in any way, shape, or form, I want you to promise me that you'll help me kick his ass." I burst out into laughter, nearly choking on some watermelon. "I promise that I will help you kick Loi's ass if he hurts Mo in any way, shape, or form."

     Maui wraps a strong arm around me and pulls me towards him. "Good." I lean my head on his shoulder. "Maui, I have a question for you. Now that we're married, I feel comfortable enough to ask you." Maui motions for me to ask away. "Have you ever thought about whether or not you wanted to have children?" For the first time in awhile, Maui freezes right in his tracks. "I-I don't know. Part of me has thought about possibly having one but the other part of me really doesn't want the extra responsibility. What about you?" I blush and nod. "I would like to have a child at some point. Though we'd have to adopt or have someone in the village carry our child if we were to have one." I notice Maui shift a bit. "Can we discuss at a later point, when I'm sure on whether or not I want to have a child?" A pang of sadness hits me but I brush it off for Maui's sake. He's been far more stressed than I have and it'd be selfish to shove this topic down his throat. I'm sure that he might change his mind in due time. After all, we really haven't been married that long so it's completely understandable as to why he's hesitant about having a child.
