~Year 2067-Winter-

It didn't take long after that day back in January when the humans attacked for them to agree to a set of ground rules. With strategic planning and placement, we had managed to overwhelm them and destroyed the weaponry they had brought with them.

The act that began to fill the humans with fear, was when one of the world leaders who came that night was killed. It actually wasn't done on purpose and dare I say...

...I'm the one who took the U.S. President's life.

There's not much else I could have done when Laura and I managed to get to a safer place only to be confronted at gun point by the man and his service agents. There's a lot I don't want to remember about that night however, I remember the fear in their eyes as they fell to their knees once their leader was killed. The fear of the unknown and how ruthless we could be if provoked.

Thankfully, so far none of the other humans in separate countries have attacked.

I know it's only a matter of time and the sheer numbers that might come the next time will probably be our last day to live.

March is a month that will be marked in history though.

The council not only sits together silently, but the different leaders of the human world sit alongside of us. The tension in the room is thick and the air stale. I sit across from Walter and Arthur while Taft sits to my right and Aohdan to my left. The leaders of the humans are scattered around us, Walter presenting the sheet of paper that he has just finished drafting up.

Laura stands silently behind Walter, her eyes averted and staring at the ground. I can hear the skip of her heartbeat when Walter clears his throat and states, "The Code of Conduct," and shifts it around for all to read:

The Code of Conduct

⊰1⊱A human's life is valuable, the very sustenance of the vampire's life revolves around its key source.

⊰2⊱Freely speak, but respect those who are stronger and are placed into a position of authority.

⊰3⊱Education is meaningful. Humans and vampires will work alongside of one another.

⊰4⊱Respect the commands of a vampire and question only when your life is at risk.

⊰5⊱A human must donate blood at least every three months. If there is a shortage, it will be required that humans donate more often.

⊰6⊱Be mindful of who you cross, there is no protection from the law.

⊰7⊱Humans are required to stay in doors, as werewolves are known to prey upon the weak.

⊰8⊱Rights are earned, not handed out.

⊰9⊱There are no cross species permitted. Anyone found pregnant and with evidence of another species' offspring will forcefully abort the pregnancy.

⊰10⊱The vampire king is the sole individual that may change or abolish The Code of Conduct at any given time.

Interesting...

My thoughts trail off after I've taken a glance at it and wonder, why did Walter note about cross breeding? I'm sure no human or werewolf would ever want to be with a vampire after this even though it appears we will be trying to work together while still remaining slightly above them all.
