Do you know what is really neat?
Seeing fans at the airport in New York after a 14hours nonstop flight from Beijing.
I am surprised to see fans waiting for me. I have no idea that I have fans in the US.
No really. I am not being falsely humble here. I didn't expect anyone in New York to know me.
But guess what...fans welcomed me. I am touched. You guys have no idea how touched I am to see friendly smiling faces welcoming me to the Big Apple. It warmed me through.
Here I am, thousand of miles away from home but when I see friendly smiling faces who are genuinely happy to see me...it filled me with positivity.
A "ah...everything will be okay..." moment of positivity.
And right that instant, I know my trip to New York will be something special.
And they brought flowers too. I know I said during my birthday that I won't want to accept any gifts but there's something about receiving pretty flowers that can make anyone smile. I am no exception.
So let me use this space and time to shout a big "Thank You!" to the people who warmly welcomed me at JFK when I arrived in New York. You guys rock!
It's cold when I arrived in New York. Obviously because it's winter in the US. We went straight to the hotel from the airport. The hotel is within walking distance from the Times Square.
New York is everything I dreamt of seeing and not. The city is alive with lights, performers on streets, busy people going to and from work, high end stores as well as stores that had been there for decades or even centuries. And it's freaking cold. Wow...
But the thing is...as alive and as historical this city is, so is Beijing. So I feel like I am just looking at our Capital in a different setting.
I am not saying this to say that New York is just another city with a different name but similar face. No. New York is beautiful. I totally recommend to everybody that you should visit this city if ever you will decide to go the US. It's fantastic.
But I guess in the end, personally speaking, there is really no place like home. Because as I look at the city lights and smell the New York scent, I missed Beijing.
Having said that, their Chinatown here in New York is awesome. I feel truly at home here. Seeing goods from my motherland. Restaurants serving Chinese dishes. Seeing the familiar decorations. It's wonderful.
And so are the fashion shows and the people I meet here. Let's not forget that I came here to New York for the New York's fashion week. After experiencing Paris Fashion Week, New York's is a bit easier for me to navigate. I guess because I am not a "virgin" anymore, to say the least.
The fabrics, the designs, the models, the people...it was again, nothing new but an eye opener.
You guys might ask, Dayu what is the difference between New York's Fashion Week to that in Paris?
Well, my dear curious readers, for one, there are about a hundred thousands brand of clothings and designers all over the world. You cannot all feature them in one week. In Paris, I saw sets of clothes made by a particular set of designers, here in New York, I witnessed models wearing clothes from a different set of designers. Things like that...
