Someone asked me if I am making friends in the new project I am shooting.
I think people saw some photos of me with the people I am working with now and they are curious if I am playing nice with my coworkers and the production staffs.
Well...I am a nice person. I want to think that I am a nice person. Sure. I play nice.
And my coactors are quite nice as well. We keep the atmosphere on the set as fun as possible. We are all serious about this project. It's a good project and we want to serve viewers something they will all enjoy at the same time, learn a lesson too.
The production staffs in this project are not bad too. We keep things on a professional level though. I think in any working environment, people are now being extra careful, what's with all these sexual assults and harasssments being exposed.
Nasty business that.
The #metoo movement sure made a wave in every industry and I, for one, think it's a good thing.
I mean, I am not a girl, and I recognize that it's tough being a girl in any industry, but I think guys get harrassed too. So...
Fortunately for me, I don't have any #metoo moment to share. I think I got lucky in that regard. I mean the only person who had gone as close to harassing me is Qing...when he was playing Chi Cheng. Now that character is forceful. I had bruises while filming that drama from Qing's rough handlings.
Anyways, that's a humorous story. Qing had never assulted or harassed me. He will not live long if he ever does that to me. I mean, we can play rough in bed. We love variety in sex and sometimes, rough does it for us.
Is that TMI? I'll stop then.
What I am trying to say is...it's tough, I know. It's really tough. You will meet people who are...not nice, to put it mildly. Creeps. Outright sleazy. Rude. Rough people. It's a tough jungle to navigate.
Life.
And at times, monsters will get you. It will hurt. It will. I...cannot imagine the horror those victims had gone through. I would not claim that I know...because like I said, I don't have the experience. But reading those stories of men and women getting harassed...getting raped. That's...fuck.
Depressing topic. Sorry. It's just...it's relevant now. I think. I don't want you all to think that I am a shallow person who bypassed these kind of things.
But yeah...my heart goes out to those who experienced these kind of horror in their working places. I mean, a person just want to earn a living, you know. Let a person make money for food and bills. Let's be humane. We are all human beings. Let's respect each other. No matter if you have the highest position, the strongest physicality, the most beautiful. C'mon...let's just work in peace. No need for nastiness or other horrible things to happen.
Wang Zhu Gege encourages Qing's Baba and Uncle to approve a seminar for their employees about work ethics in their offices. They concentrated on treating everyone with utter respect. Pau attended the seminar. Qing and I also warched a recorded video of the lecturers and speakers.
It's illuminating.
I am not saying that Wang Corps, the company Qing's family owns and manages is a perfect company but I think it's a fairly safe place to work. And they have solid rules in their company regarding respect on each and every employees' rights.
I am glad for them.
Having a work is a gratifying feeling for someone. Earning your own money. Your own keep. That's huge for a person to have. It means you can depend on yourself. Feed yourself. Not be a burden to anyone. That's big.
But if you are working in a place where someone harass or bully you everyday, that's...I have no word to describe it except terrifying. That's terrifying indeed.
When all you want to do is earn a living and someone is making you feel hell while you do your honest work to earn a paycheck, that's scary. It will take a toll on a person: physically, mentally, emotionally...it can change a person.
That's no way to live.
So I say, let's be respectful to our coworkers. Let's practice giving each other "personal space". I say, you don't need to befriend everyone, you just need to respect each and every coworkers you have.
In this current project I am shooting, I work with a variety of people. From big burly guys who works the cameras and do the heavy liftings to petite girls to authoritative directors to nice hair stylists. Different people, different personalities but one common goal: to make a good quality project.
And they are all hardworking. We all pull our own weight to make this project a reality. And for that, I have huge respect for my coworkers. To my coactors. To the directors and writers. To the whole production crews. From lightmen to the drivers to the people cooking our meals. Such wonderful people.
I hope, I truly hope, that the next #metoo movement will be about something positive. And I hope, one day will come where there is respect in every workplace for every honest laborer who just want to earn money.
May is a labor month. To all honest, harworking and trustworthy laborers out there, no matter what your job is, no matter what field you are in, no matter how dirty or how dangerous your job is, no matter how noble it is, I salute all of you.
Pilots, doctors, engineers, nurses, office workers, CEOs, actors, directors, market vendors, street vendors, factory workers, policemen, soldiers, aides, cleaners, teachers, bank personnels guards, stylist, decorators, chefs, tv personalities, etc etc...
I know there are millions of job out there. Millions of workers. As long as you are earning clean money, not stealing from anyone, not hurting others as you do your job...salute to all of you.
You are all heroes to me.
My father is a simple laborer. His job is not glamorous at all. Not fancy either. But he has always been my hero. I idolized his work ethics. Show up on the job and do your best. Love your craft and respect people around you no matter what their position is. He is the best. My Mama too.
We all have a job and a role to play. Doing our job doesn't require us to step on people. To hurt others. Let's not do that.
Happy Labor Month to everyone.
