I met up with my family in Hebei for a family outing. Baba, Mama and GrandMa.

I was so excited to see my GrandMa, I hugged her tight and kiss both her cheeks so many times she blushed.

I love my maternal GrandMa. She used to watch over me when I was young and both my parents were working. She taught me to stop chewing on my nails, or gravel stone, and instead munch on candies and snacks. She always feed me when she was looking after me.

My GrandMa is in her late sixties now. She has greying hair and wrinkles on her face and arms but what's not changing are her pretty smiles and kind eyes. I got my eyes from my mother's side of the family.

GrandMa also has a positive outlook in life. She grew up from a poor family, married a man with a minimum wage and raised a daughter in a simple living arrangement. But GrandMa said she never lacks food, a shelter over her head and clothes to wear and love. She is happy. She said she had a happy life and still living happily.

GrandMa: (gazing at me) I never wished for a grand kind of life. No fame or richness can replace the joy I had in raising your mother or on the day you entered this world, Dayu ah.

Me: You have a rich life, GrandMa.

GrandMa: I do. I learned a lot while navigating life. And I will pass all my learnings to you.

Me: I will look forward to those lessons.

My family and I went to two of HeBei's hot tourist spots. But before that, we visited an old temple to pray and to buy lucky charms.

Baba: We should have done this in New Year or before the ghost month arrives.

Me: Yeah. I agree. Why are we buying lucky charms now?

Mama: Because I consulted my horroscope and it said that I will have a difficult last quarter of the year. That I should combat that by buying luck giving charms.

Baba: (scoffing) That horroscope is just pulling your leg. Why do you believe ridiculous stuffs like that.

Me: (chuckling) Yeah...it's so ridiculous. I don't believe in horroscope.

Then Baba and I laugh together.

Mama and GrandMa stared at me and my father with the same annoyed looks on their faces. I cleared my throat and inched away from my Baba. I hugged my mother.

Me: (glaring at Baba) Why are laughing at my pretty lady, old man?! Let her buy her charms! (Smiling at Mama) Want me to buy those charms for you? Why not buy three or four? Let's buy them all! Ha ha ha...(turning serious and pouting my lips) I love you...

Baba scrunch his face as I throw him under the bus. Mama pushed my face away so I won't kiss her.

Mama: You are as bad as your Baba.

Me: No I am not! He is mean, I...am just a bit mean. There's a difference. Right, GrandMa?

GrandMa: (chuckling) Yes, there's a difference.

I let my Mama go to hug my GrandMa.

Me: (smiling at my GrandMa) Let's let them fight it out. Are you thirsty? Want me to buy a drink for you?

GrandMa: Okay.

Taking her hand, I walked with my grandmother.

We had a fun day. We ate together, took pictures and exchange stories. GrandMa is curious about Qing's new project so I explained it to her.
