Qing and I continued to walk along that beach. Hand in hand. The afternoon sun waning on the horizon.

Me: (whining) I am hungry.

Qing: We can go someplace to eat. What do you want to eat?

Me: Korean Barbecue.

Qing: (amused) I bet that is the only Korean dish you know.

Me: It's not!

Qing: What else do you want to eat then? What other Korean food do you want to taste? And save yourself some humiliation, don't say kimchi.

I pursed my lips. Qing chuckled and held my hand tighter.

Qing: God, I love you so much.

Me: If you love me, buy me barbecue. And save yourself some humilition, don't think this will improve your record. It won't...

Qing gave me a surprised look. I grinned mockingly at him. He laughed.

We turned around to go back to the hotel when we spot a stall selling souvenirs. I pulled Qing to check it out.

They have necklaces made of wood, bracelets too. Brass rings in different ethnic designs. Wooden picture frames. Weights made in stones. It's a typical trinket shop. I love it.

Me: (eyes roaming excitedly) Let's buy some.

Qing: (interested tone) What would you like to buy?

Stallkeeper: This will fit him.

Qing and I both look up from investigating trinkets to see a Caucasian middle aged blond woman who is clearly not Korean smiling at us while holding out a bead bracelet made of wood. It has a drawing of small sun on each beads.

Qing took the bracelet. Looking at it critically.

Qing: Why do you think this will suit my companion, Ma'am?

Stallkeeper: (smiling at Qing) Because you brighten everytime he smiles at you. Like a flower to a sun.

Qing and I grew still. I clamped my lips. This is a first time for someone to compare Qing to a flower.

What? I am clearly the sun in this analogy.

Qing: (nodding) That is...quite accurate. We will take it. How much is it?

Me: Will we really buy it?

Qing: (nodding) Yes.

He handed the bracelet to me. I took it gleefully. I like trinkets. Accessories most especially. Qing knew that.

Qing: (taking his wallet out) How much is it?

Stallkeeper: 10 US dollars. 10,000.00 Korean won.

Qing: Ah.

He took out the money and paid for the bracelet.

Stallkeeper: (taking the money) Thank you. Let me say, I am relieved to see that you two patches things up.

Me: (frowning a little) You saw...us?

Stallkeeper: (smiling at me) Yes. A while ago. You seem angry and gloomy. You are even shouting. I thought, I will witness another broken relationship on this cursed beach.
