I am not sure how I managed to finish that whole lunch thing, meeting guests and letting Qing's mother introduced me as a mere close friend of the family.

Mama: (taking my arm and pulling me to one corner of the room to whisper to me) No need to advertise your real relationship to Qing with these people. I don't trust them.

Me: (surprised) Why Mama?

Mama: That woman is a known gossip. And her husband is a diplomat. Her gossips can spread even outside of China. Why is she here? Isn't she supposed to be in Australia, hopping with the kangaroos?

I was shocked at the annoyance on Mama's face and tone while looking at Mrs.Ping.

And to make matters worst, JiJi joined us.

JiJi: What was Auntie thinking? Why would she invite those people here? In our vacation...

Me: What is wrong with those people?

What is going on?

JiJi: (giving me a pitying look) I will explain later. For now, stay close to me or to our parents and smile. Just smile. Whatever you hear, just smile, Dayu. Okay?

Mama: (seconded that) Listen to your JiJi. Just smile. You have a pretty smile. Charm them with your smile.

I nodded and smiled. What choice do I have? Mama and JiJi are on my either side and being adamant that I smile.

We all gathered around the table again and the desert were served to us. Bowls of fresh fruits with perfectly blended cream and heavenly slices of lemon custard cakes. Plus coffees and after meal tea.

JiJi and her husband transfered to our side of the table to give way to the guests who arrived. Mrs.Ping sat next to Auntie while Zhu gege and SheNa sat together next to Mrs.Ping.

I sat on my original seat, between Mama and Qing.

SheNa: (smiling at me) So you and Qing graduated from the same university?

Me: Yes.

I stared at SheNa. She is truly exquisitely beautiful. Like a doll. Her eyes are round, long lashed with a little slant at the corners. Her face is a bit long. Her nose delicate. Her lips are bowed shaped and her teeth are perfect. Plus her skin looks smooth and she glows. Maybe it's the happiness she feels about seeing her old playmates again that makes her smile enticing.

She is beautiful. Like a dainty tulip. Fresh looking and charming.

And she keeps eyeing my man.

Me: (looking at SheNa) You are Qing's friend? JiJi and Gege too?

SheNa: Well, more friend of Qing. We play together. Our houses are close together. I lived practically next door to them. We met when I was only five. Qing was seven. Am I right?

Qing: Yes.

So she is only two years younger than Qing and I. That is why she was close to Qing that to JiJi or Zhu gege. It's because of their age.

SheNa: (smiling fondly at Qing) I used to follow Qing ge around. Like an obedient puppy. Remember Zhu gege?

She turned her winning smile to Zhu gege who nods.

Wang Zhu: She liked playing with Qing the most.

That statement received mixed reaction. SheNa laughed while Qing glared at Zhu gege and I just don't know how to react to that.
