Twenty-five

Maja

"Can you drop it?" I said as Nadia and Arnell continued to badger me as I finished cooking breakfast. "No, because if that bastard did anything to you I'm catching a case," Nadia said. Arnell and I both looked at her surprised. "No one fucks with my family." She said hugging me. I nodded my head. "I promise I'll tell you both but I'm not ready to talk about it." They looked at one another. "Fine, we'll drop it for now." I nodded my head.

Today it was just going to be me and Samiya and she had been bouncing off the walls all morning because she was so excited. I went and sat her plate down on the table before calling her. "Samiya!" In a matter of seconds, I heard her little feet running into the kitchen. "Good morning mama." She sang before climbing into her chair. Before I could sit down the door rang. "Mama someone's at the front door," Samiya said. I chuckled and went to answer the door. I looked through the peephole before taking a step back.

"What?" I mumbled. I opened the door in shock. "What are you doing here?" I asked looking at Angelo. He stared back at me. "I came over to check on you." He said with his hands stuffed in his pockets and an innocent smile. The fact that he respected my wishes and let me be alone last night, but still cared enough to come over made me smile. He saw the smile on my face and he pulled me to him. "Are you okay?" He asked. I nodded my head. "Thank you," I whispered as he pulled me into a hug. "But you need to leave." He looked at me confused. "Why?" He asked. I opened my mouth but I was quickly interrupted. "Mama can I have some juice!" I turned to see Samiya standing there.

I looked back at Angelo and he looked from Sami to me. "Well, I guess that secret is out," I mumbled before closing the door. I walked towards Sami playing in her curls as I led her back into the kitchen with Angelo following us. I grabbed Sami's cup and poured her some orange juice. I walked into the dining room seeing Sami talk to Angelo. "My daddy said I look just like my mommy," Sami said proudly. Angelo chuckled and nodded his head. "He's right. You and your mom are very pretty."

I was surprised that she was even talking to him because she gets very shy around strangers. I finally made my presence known. "Here you go, baby," I said placing her cup down before handing Angelo a plate. He looked up at me and smiled. "Thank you." I smiled with a slight head nod. In a matter of minutes, Samiya was finished and ran off to the living room to wait for me. I looked at Angelo and he was already looking at me. "So...you have a daughter." He said.

Dimitri

I walked into my father's office seeing that he was in a meeting with Maja's father Keenan. "Dimitri, it's good to..." "What happened between you two and Maja?" I asked cutting to the point. Keenan looked at my dad while my father's eyes stayed on me. "What are you talking about?" My dad asked. "I mean at dinner yesterday. She has a lot of fucking hate direct at you two, but specifically you." I said. My father leaned forward in his seat with a slight smile. "She's a very angry girl..." "Cut the bullshit!!" I snapped.

He stood up buttoning his jacket before he came and stood in front of me. "Careful Dimitri bringing up the past can hurt a lot of people." He spoke before walking out. I looked at Keenan and he looked like he was deep in thought. He snapped out of it before looked at me. "You know what happened and I know you love your daughter. Tell me what he did."

He opened his mouth but stopped. "You should listen to your dad. The things that happened in the past should be left in the past." He said before he left. "Fuck," I grumbled before storming out of the building.

Angelo

I laughed as I watched Samiya and Maja tell this crazy story. "No mommy, you were this beautiful princess and you were running around with daddy. Then, and then you two started spinning and the room turned into stars and you became a pretty cat and daddy became a big dog." Maja laughed. "He would be a dog," Maja said laughing. I chuckled. Samiya nodded her head rapidly. "Yeah, he kind of looked like the dog uncle Tae has." Maja almost fell out her chair. "What kind of dog does Tae have?" She took a breath. "He has a... He has a..." She couldn't get it out. He paused. "He has a Pitbull." She rushed out. Samiya looked at her mother and laughed as well and I couldn't help but join them. So, the three of us sat there laughing like we were crazy.

I laughed as I watched Maja pick Samiya up and start tickling her. "Ah no, mommy!!" Samiya screamed. I chuckled. I couldn't help but smile as I watched the two them. "Mama, can we watch Atlantis?" Samiya asked.

We were halfway through the movie when Samiya fell asleep. I was waiting for Maja to come back from putting Samiya to bed when she came and plopped down next to me letting out a sigh. "Today was fun," I said. She looked up at me about to speak but stopped. "You don't have to explain anything to me until you're ready." She stared at me before shaking her head. "What?" "You've really blown my entire perception of you out the water. I feel kind of bad now." She mumbled. "I've been trying to tell you." She rolled her eyes making me laugh. "See this is why you can't give people compliments." She said. "I'm just saying though," I said as my phone rang. "Hey, mama," I spoke into the phone. "Where are you?" "I'm still with Maja. I should be home soon." I said before she started talking. "Tell Maja I said hi. Oh, and when am I going to meet Maja in person, hmm?" I scratched the back of my head. "Well um..." "Yeah. Yeah, we'll talk when you get home." My mother said before hanging up.

"You think your mom likes me?" She asked. "Yeah, she said you were nice even after I told her how mean you are. She just doesn't believe me." I said with a shrug. "I am not mean. I just have a low tolerance for stupid people or comments." I laughed before I stood up. "Let me head out before it gets too late. Although I don't want to leave." I said as we walked through the front door. I turned seeing Maja smile. I wrapped my arms around her squeezing her tight. "I'll talk to you tomorrow," I whispered before kissing her and heading out.

Maja

I was cleaning the living room when I got a call.

"What's up?" I said as I continued to clean. "Hey, Mj, Nadia and I are spending the night at mama's," Arnell said. "Why?" I asked. "We're very drunk and her house was the closes." I laughed shaking my head. "Alright, make sure you eat something in the morning," I said before we said our goodbyes.

After I finished cleaning I headed to my room and took a quick shower. I walked out the bathroom seeing Samiya sleeping in my bed. I chuckled shaking my head. I was about to join her when the doorbell rang. "I swear if one more person pops up unannounced I'm moving," I mumbled heading to the door. I looked through the peephole before a scowl formed on my face. "Son of a bitch," I said. "I can hear you." He said in a taunting voice. "Go away." I snapped. "We need to talk." I smacked my lips. "What is with you Joseph men? We don't have boo diddly to talk about." I turned to walk off when I heard the doorknob jiggle before it swung open.

"Unlike my son, I will not put up with your attitude. We have several things to discuss." He said walking towards me.
