"But that's not fair." I heard Dem say. I found him and MJ in the kitchen. "I understand that you may be upset but I don't know Kamari or his mother well enough to send you off to their house," MJ spoke to him calmly. "But Uncle Tae will be there," Dem argued back. "I understand that but it's my job to keep you safe, which means you can't do certain things. This is one of them. Now if that upsets you I'm sorry,"

"I want to talk to Dad." He said. It was obvious that hurt MJ's feelings, but she nodded her head. "Okay." Her tone was tight before her eyes met mine as I rounded the corner pretending I hadn't been listening. "Good morn—." "Mama won't let me go to Kam's." Dem blurted out. "Come talk to me in the living room." He trudged into the other room, and my eyes shifted to MJ. "Don't." She shook her head.

"I'm fine." She said feeding the twins. "He's a kid everything feels like the end of the world." She nodded her head taking a breath. I kissed the top of her head and then greeted my boys hearing their adorable laughter. "Just make sure he doesn't hate me." She whispered. "He would never, but I'll talk to him."

"Thank you." She nodded her head before I left to find Dem. "Hi, Bubba." "Why can't I go?" He asked. "Because we don't know Kam or his mom well enough to let you go over there. We are always going to do what we think is best and in this moment the best is you not going to a stranger's home." I explained.

"But they aren't strangers." "I know you and him are buddies at school but for me and Mama they're strangers," I said. "Not just at school." I looked at him confused. "What do you mean?" "We've played together at Uncle Tae's place before." He admitted. I quickly fixed my face. "I see. The point still stands they're strangers to us. You just have to be patient with us. Can you do that?" I asked him. He sighed.

"Okay, then can Uncle Benny and Marcus come over?" He asked. "I'll call them and see if they can. I have to go help Auntie Nay later do you want to come or do you want to stay here with Mom." "I want to stay with Mama." He said. I nodded agreeing. "That means you have to be nice to her." He smiled. "I promise. Can I go eat now?" I chuckled. "Yeah go ahead," I said stepping aside. I headed back into the kitchen watching Dem walk over to his mother. "I'm sorry if I was mean." He said hugging her.

MJ smiled kissing his cheek. "It's okay baby, but you understand why I don't want you to go?" He nodded his head. "Hi, Dad," Sami said with a big smile "Good morning, munchkin," I called out. "Mama said I can't go to Kam's house because she loves me." Dem summarized. "Makes sense to me," Sami said with a shrug eating her breakfast. I chuckled as Nadia came downstairs.

After Dimitri got Sami I headed to J.J. and Nadia's place. "You okay?" Nadia asked. A sigh left my lips. "Dem told me something concerning and I'm trying to figure out how I should tell MJ." Fear, shock, and anger coated her face. It was moments like this when I saw how much MJ resembled her siblings.

"Did something happen to him? Was he hurt? Tell me!" Her voice was shaky, and her eyes had taken on a crazed look. "Hey relax. He's okay." I assured her. "What happened?" "He told me that he met Sonia before yesterday." My hands tightened around the steering wheel as I thought about how trusting we were.

"That motherfucker." Nadia snapped drawing my attention. "He made Nell and I apologize to her when he was being shady and with Maj's kids at that. Oh bitch—," She stopped grabbing her phone. "Wait. Hold on what are you doing?" "Calling Maj—," I shook my head as I pulled into the parking garage.

"No. You and I know she'd work herself up. Just wait." Nadia took a breath. Omar knocked on her window and Reggie knocked on mine. "We doing this or what?" Omar asked. Nadia got out of the car, and I followed her lead. "I can't believe J.J. fucked up this bad," Reggie whispered.
