Angelo

I was in the courtyard with some of my boys waiting for my next class. I sat there watching the different people walk by. Some women who blushed anytime one of us smiled at them. The men who nodded their heads at us showing respect. "Hey, Angelo." This one woman named Tori said. I nodded my head at her. "What's up?" Her smile widened.

"You never called me." I stared at her for a second trying to figure out what she was talking about. "Highlight party." My homeboy Omar said fake coughing. "Oh. Damn my bad. I've been busy with school and the frat stuff." I said as my boys laughed at my weak excuses. She looked at them obviously feeling embarrassed. "Oh, I see. Um well... I gotta go to class. I'll talk to you later." She said as she rushed off.

"Why did you embarrass that girl?" J.J. said as they all broke out into laughter. "I didn't. I really have been busy." They straight faced me. "You weren't busy when you were with Josie last night," Reggie said. I smiled which made them laugh. "Josie and I weren't doing anything besides Tori just isn't my type." "We know." Omar chimed in.

I had always been more drawn to black women and that only increased as I got older. Mainly because that was really the only women I grew up around.

My mom passed away a couple years after I was born and my dad married a black woman. She is truly the model for the type of woman I hope to marry one day, but until then I'm just trying to have fun. "Aye, there go Haseem," J.J. said knocking me out my thoughts. "And he's with Maja, Arnell, and Nadia." I licked my lips as I looked at the three women. Nadia was one of the sweetest people on this campus. She was cool with just about everyone. Arnell was the oldest of the three and she was one of those straight A-no studying necessary-can party the night before a test and still pass type of person.

Then there was their younger sister, Maja. She can be described in one word: lowkey. Just about every man on this campus tried to get at her and she turned them all down. She only hung out with a select few and she always left people wanting to know more about them.

"Maja just don't know," Reggie said not taking his eyes off of her. "Yo Haseem!" Omar yelled catching Haseem's attention. The four of them walked over. "What's up?" He said greeting all of us. "Hey, Nadia," J.J. said making her blush.

"Hey J.J. Hey everyone." She said with a wave. Arnell chuckled. "Well if it isn't my favorite group of Ques." She said. They started talking and my eyes wondered over to Maja. She wore her hair in this curly fro and she smiled down at her phone. I wonder who she's texting that has her smiling like that. "Damn Angelo you staring hard as shit." Maja's eye's connected with mine just for a second before she spoke.

"I'm going to head to class. Bye everyone." She said with a small wave. "I guess we should come too," Nadia said looked Haseem. Before they walked away Maja looked my way before sliding on her shades. "Damn," I mumbled walking away.

Maja

Haseem, Nadia and I walked into our 11 o'clock ethics class. "All I'm saying is your friend is creepy and he has a staring problem." Haseem chuckled. "Stop being so mean," Nadia said. I huffed as I sat in my seat. "He's cool peoples your just what mean girls would say 'An unfriendly black hottie'," Haseem said making me laugh. "But you two love me so," I said cheesing. They looked at me not saying anything. "Oh, so it's like that I see." "We're kidding." They laughed as the teacher walked in. "Good morning class." Professor Day said.

As she was about to speak the door opened and J.J., Rocky, and Angelo, better known as the creeper, walked in. "Nice of you boys to join us." They smiled sheepishly as they took their seats behind us. "As I was saying I was hoping we could continue our conversation about controversial issues in America. But let's try not to get too riled up this time." She said glancing around the room before looking my way. I smiled sheepishly sinking into my seat. "So, what should we discuss today?" She said leaning against her desk.

"Well everyone here knows I'm dating A.J. and he's African American. And I noticed that when we're walking together other black women seem to always give me nasty looks. It's not my fault that he chose me." This white girl named Kandace said with this smug look. "Pssh," I said shaking my head. "Miss. Lewis do you have anything to add?" I looked at my professor debating if I should say what's on my mind. "Go ahead Maja we are all going to remain professional."

I nodded my head. "Well, Kandace I can promise you black women aren't giving you a nasty look because of your boyfriend." I watched as her face turned into a snarl. "Oh, really then why are they mugging me. It's because they're jealous they can't get a man because they can't control their attitudes." I chuckled a dry humorless laugh. "Oh snap." I heard J.J. Say. "Get her Maja," Nikita said.

"Actually, I can tell you for a fact that you're getting mugged because one: you talk like you've never been to a decent school in your life. Two: that shit on your head. Box braids are not for you and you look dusty with them. Keep putting that shit in your head and you gone end up bald. Three: You walk like you have a fucking back problem. You don't have an ass. Embrace that shit. As for A.J. choosing you, trust and believe when I say this. One text and that won't be ya man."

"Oop," Camren said sipping her drink. "In other words, your nigga can took," Nikita said. Kandace huffed and turned around in her seat. "Alright let's switch gears. To go off what Kandace was saying how do you all feel about interracial dating?" Professor Day questioned. "I'm cool with it as long as you're with the person because you like them and not for a fetish or anything," Nadia said.

I fell quiet as everyone around the room voiced their opinions on the topic. "What about you Maja?" I heard someone ask from behind me. I turned to see Angelo looking at me. "Yeah, Maja you've gotten quiet." Professor Day said. "I think I'll pass. I've already had my fill arguments for today."

"Why would there be an argument?" Angelo asked again with a small smirk. I squinted my eyes at him. "Fine. It's not my thing." I said looking at Angelo. "Sure, I guess." Once he said that I went to turn around when he continued. "I just didn't picture you as being so closed minded." My jaw tightened. "Excuse me."
