A/n: Ally doesn't 'do' what her father wants her to do. She just wants her dad to cool off and maybe then, she can convince him to stop the wedding. In this chapter, she has an idea of what she can do about the wedding, but then something comes and possibly changed her mind?
I close the door behind me and grab my shopping bags out of the car. I look in front of me. Jade and Anne were walking into the house, carrying streamers. I follow them inside and was caught off guard by how decorative the house looks. A party was going on.
A few feet ahead of me stood Jade. "Jade," I said.
Jade turns around and smiles. "Hey, Ally," she greets.
I smile before getting back on topic. "What's going on?"
"Sorry, can't really talk," she says. "Your father wants us to quickly decorate the house for tomorrow."
"Tomorrow? What's happening tomorrow?" I question.
Jade creases her brows. "You don't know?" She asks. I shake my head. "Your father is throwing an engagement party for you tomorrow."
"What!" I said.
Jade's eyes shift to something behind me and sighs. "Listen, I have to get going," she says. "I will see you later."
What is going on with my dad? He's been rushing me. It was as if he wanted to get this over with before I can run away. And that idea is still fresh in my mind. I only came back here because I needed their advice, and I did not need him to force me to do something that I don't want to do. Talking on the phone wasn't enough. I don't even know why I'm staying. Maybe I should just go back.
I turn around, and my eyes widen seeing someone I never thought would be stepping inside my parents' house, let alone, come to see me. That is what I am assuming. My heart skips a beat, seeing her here. "Hi, Ruth," I greet her.
"Hi, Allyson," she says. "We need to talk."
I settle her down in the dining room as I made the both of us some tea. I let the teabag settle in the cup. I hand her one of the cups while I grab the other for me, and I take a seat in front of her. "What brings you here?" I ask.
"My husband has this international meeting for his job in San Antonio, Texas, for a week so I decided to come with him. I was hopeful to meet you in the city, so here I am. But I only wanted to come because of you," she says, holding onto her cup firmly.
"Me?" I question.
"Yes, you," she says. "Why else? I don't favor Texas much, but you're here, and Liam favors you, so I came. Ever since you left, my brother has only paid attention to his work. He never gives himself a break. He's a workaholic now. He barely goes home, and he sleeps in his office."
I shake my head, thinking about how he must be feeling. My skin literally has goosebumps as I replay her words in my mind.
Ruth turns around and observes the room. "Excuse me for asking, but why are there decorations?"
I sadly answer, "It's an engagement party...for me."
Ruth widens her eyes. "Engagement?! You're still married to my brother. And you're getting engage again. That's sinful. Have you no good soul? Why are you doing this?"
"Yes, I know," I begin. "I know very well. But my father is forcing me to marry someone I don't love."
"And you're not doing anything about it?" She questions before taking a sip of her tea.
"I have no clue what to do," I said.
"You know very well that my brother loves you,"
"Yes, I know. I love your brother so much, but there's just some things that you don't understand," I said.
