Kris leads me into the house. My eyelids slowly heavy as I breathe inconsistently. The doctor still has to do surgery on him, and I was planning to stay there all night, but Kris forced me to go home. And I was not grateful for that.

Kris explained to me what had happened earlier. And it was my fault. Anger has pushed Liam to not look at the road ahead. He missed pressing the brakes, and by the time he did, it was too late.

Dinah wanted to stay with me, but I told her to go back home. I didn't want her to wait on me.

My legs were numb, and I feel my body falling to the ground until someone holds my back from falling. I look up and see Liam smiling at me like the way he does. His beautiful smile almost fills my empty heart until I realize it was Kris.

"You should change and go to bed," he tells me.

"I am alright," I remark. He takes his hands off of me. I slowly try to make my way up the stairs.

As I pass the kitchen, I hear a loud voice entering the house, "You!" I turn around and see Ruth, my father-in-law, and Nicola. Ruth points at me and stomps her way. "You did this!" She pulls my arm and throws me to the ground.

I shake my head, looking at her, but I am too tired to do anything more. "No," I respond.

"Lies!" She screams. "If it wasn't for you, Liam wouldn't even be in this mess." She continues to point at me.

"Ruth!" Geoff shouts.

"Dad. I am serious," Ruth said. A vein pops on her forehead as she leans down to my height. She whacks my head, causing me to lose my balance. I clench my teeth and fist, feeling this hatred of pain. "You have no right to join this family. You break everything you touch."

"That is enough," Geoff says, giving Ruth a dead look. "Ruth, it is not Ally's fault. She has no part in it. We will let the professional handle this business."

Ruth glares at me, giving me the coldest look anyone has ever given me. "Don't think that I will accept you in this household," she says to me.

"Ruth," Kris butts in. "That is no way to talk to your sister-in-law."

Ruth looks up and opens her mouth to remark but widens her eyes as if she saw a ghost. "Kris?" She questions.

"Yes," Kris eyes at her deeply. "Go away."

Ruth pouts. She shifts her eyes at everyone in the room before dramatically groaning out of the room. Nicola comes to my aid and helps me get up.

"Are you hurt?" she asks.

I shake my head. "No," I lie. I was deeply hurt. Not on the outside but in the inside.

"Here, let me help you change and get ready for bed," Ruth says.

She helps me upstairs. Before I enter my room, I hear Geoff asking Kris to stay.

How funny your life can change in an instant. I occasionally question myself if my life was going to be like this. For me to always end up by myself.

Once I am settle in bed, I rest my arms on my knees, playing with my fingers. I look to the empty space beside me and slide my hand to feel the coldness of the sheets. And as empty as it was, it wasn't as empty as my heart. Silence is a sound that I did not enjoy anymore. It didn't relax my thoughts and feelings. Simply because the silence was replacing him. And he wasn't here. He. Wasn't. Here.

My eyes find the shiny ring on my finger. I look at it with intense hope. I bring it up to get a clearer view of it. My other thumb trace the outline of the ring and its dimensions.
