It was another day of training for the 104th Cadet Corps. Today Instructor Keith was forcing everyone millions of laps around the woods and back to the campsite like CRAZY. It was so exhausting, I was practically dragging my feet across the dirt. But who wasn't? If this isn't torture, I don't know what is. But no sooner did I realize I was going to learn that there were much worse punishments than simply running across the woods and back....but being forced to do it it during the NIGHT.

Yep. You heard me right. Our instructor Keith was forcing both me and precious Armin to run laps from the woods and back to the training camp without end until he says weir good. And Keith, he usually never makes anyone train past Night hours. Usually he'll keep a few selected trainees he feels isn't giving it their all training until the sun meets the earth's edge, but this time was different.

I've noticed that Keith seemed a bit prickly today. I don't know what happened to him, or what caused him to be such a dick to us today, but he was plain SAVAGE. To be exact, today, he was the very definition of the term SAVAGE. He was, I'm not lying!

Armin was of course, the one out of the hundred of us who was chosen to do a million more laps. Why? Well...Armin isn't as athletic as the rest of us. But I can relate. Yes, I am a bit strong like the rest of my squad mates, but some athletic sports or training I lack strength in greatly. So...I guess both me and Armin are the weak ducklings among our year.

A storm had started to arrive. Harsh rains, cold arctic weather arriving, and it was as freezing as....well, not Hell. Hell is supposed to be hot, so....it was freezing like....a blizzard. Yeah, a blizzard. Don't judge me.

Me and Armin had been running laps without break and without rest, and without food. Or water. It was literal torture! And no, it's not figurative....ITS LITERAL!!! I mean it....but anyway, me and Armin have been jogging without stop.

This painful exercise was taking quite a toll on our bodies. But that wouldn't stop. But we kept running and running....but at one point, Armin stops and turns around to turn his focus on me. This causes me to stop in my own tracks as well, as I look Armin into the eyes. "Armin...? Is something wrong?" I asked a little worried or concerned. Was everything alright...? Or...

"Kiyomi...why...why did you slow down? Your faster than this, and you know it. You didn't have to slow down just so you could keep up with me. Because of that, your stuck jogging in the Night like I am. I'm no burden, you don't have to concern yourself with me. Just leave me alone."

These cold words stabbed thorns into my heart. Armin knew all along, the reason I was slower today. I wanted to stay by his side. Sure, I was worried that he may not be able to keep up with everyone. If your too slow, you are usually forced to work in the fields and drop out as a soldier in training. But more than that, the reason I stayed by Armin's side, it was...well, out of affection. I just constantly always feel the need to remain by his side. I'm kinda like a duckling who wants nothing more but to stay by it's mother's side. And I can see that I've annoyed Armin greatly for this.
