There was yet another day to go on an expedition beyond the walls. Mikasa was put in a different squad rear than the one Eren was being placed in.
There was nothing she could do about it, and she wanted to argue against her superiors just to stay by Eren's side. Eren happened to be passing by when this happened, and got irritated with her and scowled at her for it.
"Your a soldier, you have to obey orders, so give some damn respect!!" Eren yells at Mikasa from the top of his lungs. He nearly head butts her in the forehead for this like he did during the battle of trost, but remembering the tears that formed in Mikasa's eyes when he did, made his refrain himself from doing it a second time.
"S-Sorry..." Mikasa apologizes as she forces her gaze away from Eren. At this moment, Eren knew that the girl felt guilt for putting her feelings first. "But...I promise not to die." Eren says before walking away.
He has no intention of dying...but sometimes he knows that these are words Mikasa needs to hear. She afterall, is always like a mother to him, constantly worrying about him all the time. So just this one time, he decided to tell her the words she wanted to hear most.
A smile formed across Mikasa's lips, feeling reassured once she heard Eren promise to not dye. It's not that she doesn't believe he will be alright on his own. Heck, he's in a squad who Captain Levi is directing.
Captain Levi is strong, there's know way that he would let death wrap Eren in it's grip. But Eren's the person who has gave her and her life meaning. Without him, if he hadn't saved her on that day, she'd be dead.
Mikasa owes much to Eren. And she cares about him deeply. So her being paranoid about his well being makes complete sense. But knowing that he will keep his word, Mikasa's regains the strength to fight and move forward in the battle to come.
As long as you are in my life...I can do anything.
The expedition had broken into hell and it was a mission failed. This was the usual for the Survey corps, even with Eren on their side. They still find themselves accomplishing very little. But with Eren on their side, there is still hope for a better future. A future without Titans.
Mikasa frequently glanced around on horseback. She was with the retreating soldiers, on their way home to the walls. But nowhere, did she see him in sight.
"Excuse me, have you seen Eren Yeager?" Mikasa asked a simple looking scout ahead of her. "What, you mean that monster who could shapeshift into a Titan? Haven't seen that guy, thankfully." He answered.
Hearing this young man call Eren the term "Monster" struck a nerve inside her, but she kept her emotions inside. She couldn't afford to release her anger onto his man right now. Especially when she needs to make sure that Eren is safe and headed back to the walls as well.
