Armin takes his rifle and leaves with Kiyomi, upon finding her. They start walking towards the exit of the base, which is located near a small river.
"Kiyomi... Anything could happen from this point on. I know that your more than capable of defending yourself... But please. Don't get yourself hurt. Stay close to me at all times... Ok?" Armin gazes at Kiyomi. He did not want to risk losing her during this expedition. "I promise." Kiyomi nods.
"And... Don't try to be a hero and get yourself killed." Kiyomi says next.
"O-Ok, promise."
The two promises each other to have one and the others backs and to be safe. Armin and Kiyomi continued on with their journey along with the rest of the army. As they walk along the road, Kiyomi feels uneasy about the fact that there are so many people running around and fighting each other. It seems like a war zone out there.
"What's... Happening out here?" Kiyomi asked Armin. "Nothing, just some old men arguing over who's the best swordsman out here." Armin explained. Ever since the three walls defending humanity were destroyed, some elites and veterans likes to waste time drinking and fighting over stupid things of the such rather than lending help in discovering a possible outcome humanity needs to survive against the threat they face.
"Hmm..." Kiyomi hums.
"So... Who are you?" A voice comes from behind. Armin and Kiyomi turns their gazes around to an individual who came up from behind. He bore blonde locks, he was tall, and wore a deep blue scarf, reminding the two of someone dear...
The man stares at them both. He has a scar across his face, but it was not fresh. His eyes seemed filled with hatred and anger. "You're the guy who saved me?!" He exclaims angrily.
"Yeah, I am." Armin does not deny what is true. Back when the walls were still holding up, before the structures were destroyed, Armin saved this man from being eaten alive from a mercyless giant known as a Titan. The Titan had caused the scar on the man's face just before Armin came and saved the man. If it wasn't for Armin, this soldier would be dead.
"Thank you!" The angered expression suddenly disperses and is replaced with gratitude. Both Armin and Kiyomi were utterly confused but decided to accept his thanks neverless. "No problem, but I don't think we should be talking." Armin remarks.
It is best when venturing beyond the base to stay quiet as a mouse. Because then they might hear them. Titans still roam the earth to this day. They are the sole reason humans have reached the peak of instinction to begin with. Titans have strong senses. They can hear humans from afar. But even staying quiet, if a Titan is aware of a humans presence, they can track and find you.
"We can always go back to the city, if you change your mind." The man, who's name is Edzard Burke, smiles with a mention. "Return to the City...? I doubt there's anything worth returning to the city for. After the walls fell, everything fell in ruins. Nothing but collateral damage is mostly left." Armin reminds the soldier.
"Well, we can't exactly return to the city right now, but maybe later. For now though, let's travel together." Edzard Burke suddenly offers. The three walled City's that once stood tall that were named Wall Maria, Rose, and Sina held a special place in the hearts of many who survived the fall of these 50 meter hugged structures.
On the day the walls fell, Titans broke in. Many were eaten alive, buildings destroyed from the giants charging in. Some weren't even eaten, but crushed from damaged buildings. Was it... truly possible to return to those days? Armin and Kiyomi shared sad looks as they thought back over the days they spent back then.
Still being in constant danger of the Titans was still rough even with the walls protecting the majority of humanity. But... the districts and people within the walls... was still home. Could they truly go back to the old days? The way things were before? But... that aside, can humanity ever win against such a threat?
Can humans ever live their lives without living in fear? Can humans be free to explore the earth once more? "Well... If you mean to form a group with me and Kiyomi, I don't see why not." Armin shrugs, not having much of a problem with that. "That sounds good." Smiles Edzard Burke as he begins to walk alongside Armin and Kiyomi.
Enough years have passed for Armin and Kiyomi to be around their early 19's. Pretty close to their twenties. They've been soldiers risking their lives for a long time. So they, along with other soldiers they graduated with (who has survived up until now), are considered elites by now. They've earned the respect of many.
Edzard Burke seemed to be in his mid teens. He is likely around the age of 15. He seems to not be very concerned about the journey they were embarking upon... despite having seen how fearsome the Titans can be first hand.
Was getting chewed by a Titan across the face and earning a scar not enough for him to realize the reality we all face?
Armin wondered in the back of his mind. But of course, he never voiced any of this allowed.
"So, Armin... do we have an exact destination in mind?" Kiyomi decides to ask Armin.
"Yes, we do. It's called the city of Nuro." Armin answers. "The city of Nuro... should... should heading that way... help us win the battle against the Titans?" Kiyomi asked next. The war has been going on for so long now... and things have only worsened. Kiyomi feels she needs to know. Could traveling to the City of Nuro truly be the key Humanity needs in order to not only survive, but to reclaim their freedom?
"It should help us win the battle against the Titans, yes." Armin answers, sounding quite confident. "But... how can you know for sure?" Kiyomi pressed on. "Because I'm going to Nuro myself." Armin answers.
"Hmm... but... what is exactly waiting for us at Nuro?" Kiyomi had never gone to the City of Nuro before, so she felt the need to ask questions. "I don't know yet. We will find out soon enough." Armin responds. Kiyomi nods and doesn't say much the rest of the way there.
They can't know anything for sure... the most they can do is take a gamble. It's the only thing they can do. Even if things aren't definite, everyone has to do their part and try.
Authors Note: Edzard Burke is a new original Attack On Titan Character I may or may not start writing about more. His design I created months ago but completely forgot about until I browsed through old photos I took. Edzard Burke was originally supposed to bare no scars. But the roleplay robot had different plans. The robot wanted to give Edzard a scar in this story, so I went along with it in this scenario. And one other thing. Throughout the story there is no mention of Eren or Mikasa because the story never progressed enough for me to think of including them. But I think it's kinda strange, Armin and Kiyomi in my stories or at least my imagination, are always around Eren and Mikasa like ducklings. But not in this story. So if anyone is wondering what happened to those pure souls, well... I thought it over and it came to me. Most Eldians were killed or eaten alive when Wall Maria, Rose, and Sina fell. So let's say they died during that event in battle. So sad... but I will try to keep explaining more things throughout the chapters so things might make a bit more sense. It can be a little challenging creating an Aot apocalypic story especially when the roleplayer robot knows nothing of Aot. If there are any questions I do not answer in other parts I create, feel free to ask and I will try to think of an answer the best I can.
