It was another perilous day beyond the birdcage Humanity had hid behind for many, many, long years. Soldiers flew past tall trees while others swung around Titans to only slash off the nape of the monster's napes, or to be eaten alive brutally.

Kiyomi rode on horseback with her squad that consisted of her, Armin, and three others who she has yet to have memorized the names of. The three others soldiers in her squad, she only just met before the expedition had started. They seemed like smart, kind and great people. But tragically, fate would have it in for them to be eaten alive by the Titans.

Kiyomi and Armin's horses rode side by side, having fled the Titan ambush together. The two soldiers were miraculously alive. They were lucky that the ones grabbed by the claws of the Titans, were not them. Tis a tragic and merciless fate for those who are chosen to be devoured by the giants.

Kiyomi and Armin's horses were eventually running out of both breath and energy, so the two stops by a tall tree where a lake blanketed by. The soldiers cupped water into their dry hands, drank some, while splashing the rest on their sweaty faces.

"For how much longer...will we have to do this?" Kiyomi spoke, her each and every word trembling like a rattling table caused by a sudden earthquake. Armin jerks his head up to meet eyes with the girl, to only realize that very soon, she will lose her marbles.

"For how much longer...are we going to have to fight this futile battle...? For how much longer...will I have to see everyone die before me? For how much longer..." Kiyomi ends breaking into cracking sobs and hiccups.

Armin, concerned, focuses his complete attention on his dear friend. This...this didn't sound like Kiyomi at all. The Kiyomi he knew, was always so hopeful. Maybe not very brave, but she never gave up on what hope they had. She always gave her squadmates hope. But...it was as if the light inside her had died out. It was as if...she was no longer that same person. She appeared broken....and indeed she seemed to be on the verge of it.

"Kiyomi...the battle isn't futile. There's hope for humanity to win against the Titans, we have Eren!" Kiyomi forces herself to look up and meet eyes with Armin. Armin...he appeared firm in this belief of his. That as long humanity has Eren, he may as well be their final spec of hope that will bring the entire human race a future without any more of the Titans. A future to finally be free.

Kiyomi wanted to hold on to that hope once more. But upon dropping it, she feels it may never be possible to pick it up again. "But...for how long?" Armin sighs after hearing Kiyomi's question. "I don't know. But I do promise you this-- we have a future. All of us. And no matter what that future offers, wether its freedom of peace, or just more and more pain and fear, I promise to keep you safe no matter the cost. You won't die. I swear it. Not as long as I'm around. I won't let it happen."

Hearing Armin comfort and try to raise her spirits in a way, lifted Kiyomi up a little. She found the hope she had dropped long ago, finally being picked back up with her own hands, with Armin's help. Perhaps...there is hope. She can't see it, neither can she feel it, but it's there.

With Armin...perhaps there is still hope. With Armin....perhaps there is still a future for me.

Kiyomi wipes the stained tears from her eyes and face, and she stands up tall with Armin. She offers him a weak smile, but that smile was enough for Armin. "Let's do it then. Let's keep fighting together to the last breath. Let's make our dreams come true. Let's grab ourselves a better future."

"Yes, Kiyomi. Let's do it."
