It was another day, another expedition ended. It was late afternoon when the scouts came back inside the walls. Just as usual, people were lined up by the sides of the streets, watching. Hopeful that their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, and other loved ones came back alive. But just like always, less numbers came back from the expedition. And just like always, the scouts came back empty-handed. With Eren now in the palm of humanity's hand, their final hope, hope had spread everywhere. People became more hopeful that maybe, just maybe, the battle against the Titans may end. But lately no results have been coming out of the battles. Each battle, each fight, each expedition has appeared to be all for naught. It has appeared to be in vain.
Kiyomi had helped out a few wounded soldiers arrive to the health clinic, and afterwards she found herself wondering the streets. Usually after expeditions she either takes long walks, find her friends to be near, or lock herself up in her room to cry out her eyes. The life as a soldier was hard. You have to get used to the death around you. You have to get used to losing the ones you once called friend or even loved. You have to get used to looking at the Titans...watching them eat other fellow humans alive...tearing apart their limbs. Limb by limbs...
The very memory was enough to trigger Kiyomi to get sick. But she held it in and kept walking. Often when she does go on walks, it is in order to walk off her anxiety and energy that was trapped inside her for so long.
After enough walking with no real destination at mind, she decides to look for Armin. She searches and searches, and doesn't seem to have any luck in finding him. Now she was getting worried...no, stressed. Actually, scared. At this rate, she may get a panic attack if she doesn't find him sooner or later. He better not be dead. Or else, Kiyomi will probably give up fighting this pointless battle completely.
But luckily, she ends up finding him before she could begin losing it. He was standing right outside the Mess Hall. Armin sat down by the steps. His expression appeared blank, his eyes dull. He appeared to have nothing on the mind at all, which was quite unusual for Armin. He appeared out of it. But covered ontop his head, was a bandage. Did he injure himself during the expedition? That must be.
But then, without wasting another second, Kiyomi darts on over to Armin while shouting out Armin's name, pulling him out of it. His eyes opens back up, the light returning to his ocean blue eyes. He stands there, not really moving much of a muscle, until Kiyomi grabs Armin into a close hug, surprising him. Not many really ever, grabs him into a hug. His parents and his grandfather did, but nobody else has ever did this before.
"K-Kiyomi...?"
"Thank goodness, I was worried when I couldn't find you! Armin, are you alright?" Kiyomi ask before removing herself from Armin and eyeing the bandage that rested across his forehead. "Y-Yeah...I'm fine. It's just a scratch is all." Armin explains calmly, as if it's nothing.
"...I'm glad." Kiyomi smiles small. There was a moment of silence as the two stood before each other, not saying much of anything. Nothing really came to mind to say for Kiyomi, and especially Armin who still appears slightly out of it.
"What happened...that gave you that scratch?" Kiyomi decided to ask before sitting down on the steps with Armin, right by the entrance to the Mess Hall. "Just a Titan, is all. All I remember was charging ahead alongside my squad mates before a gigantic Titan came out of nowhere, grabbed me, and eventually tossed me out of it's hand across the field. I was like a mere baseball to it..." Armin chuckled at the thought, even though there was nothing funny about the matter.
"But...your fine, right? No major damage or...?"
"I doubt it. Don't worry, I'm fine." Armin smiles, while wrapping a arm around Kiyomi's side, pulling her close, trying to both comfort and reassure her that he will be fine. Armin know's how Kiyomi is after expeditions beyond humanity's nest. She gets paranoid about his condition and safety since he is always constantly on her mind throughout the expedition, especially if they both are split up in different squads. It is only natural to worry about someone you care about when they venture into something life threatening or perilous.
"I'm glad..." Whispers Kiyomi before leaning her head on Armin, as she closed her eyes and rested there with the boy. They both stayed that way for a long time. Eventually Armin urges Kiyomi to go and get some rest, and Kiyomi obeys. But before leaving into her dorm within the Private Quarters, which Armin accompanied her to, she asked of him to do the same. He promises that he will, and the two goes their own separate ways.
It is times right after returning home from a expedition outside, when Armin needs to comfort Kiyomi most. Especially during the Night. Kiyomi always locks her door to her dorm room, but both Armin and Kiyomi gave each other extra keys to enter each others room just incase. In case if one of them is having nightmares.
There has been times, one of the two would shout at night, even scream in a middle of a Nightmare. It has scared the daylights out of the other, waking up to hear the other scream. Sometimes the two wondered if they were getting butchered in the Night. But luckily, all it was, was a Nightmare.
They will visit each others rooms and will try to wake the other up from the Nightmare and comfort them afterwards. After comforting, they will try to put the other back to sleep soundly, without any Nightmares. Usually if one has a Nightmare, the other will stay with that one for the rest of the Night, to make sure no more Nightmare haunts them. Tis what a normal day and Night back from an expedition is usually like.
