It was another day in the City of Shiganshina. Snow was gently falling, covering many of the houses and Earth. Bright decorations decorated the streets of Shiganshina. Coralors sung into the night. Toy's were everywhere in the shopping district's spotlight, and Christmas will soon be upon us!
There lived a young boy. His name was was Armin Arlert. Every Christmas Eve Armin would sit himself before his window. He would wait for a shooting star to rush by. Once it did, Armin would make a wish upon a shooting star.
He would wish for the Titans reign to soon come to an end. He would wish for the Titans to disappear from existence.
He would wish for the walls to be no more. He would wish to be able to step foot outside the confinement of these walls he's been trapped living inside his whole life.
He would wish for freedom. He would wish to explore the world lurking outside these walls.
He would wish to see the Ocean with his best friend Eren.
And lastly... he wished for humanity to no longer live in fear of being dominated by bloodthirsty monsters such as the Titans. All of the pain, misery, and confinement everyone, including their ancestors have had to go through... he... he wished for it all to disappear.
He desires to live a much more peaceful and happier life with those who matters most to him. That was all he ever wanted.
Rather than approaching a fat man dressed in red, a hat on top, with a black pair of shoes who yelped, "Ho, ho, ho" all for toys... Armin desired freedom and peace for all. Rather than toys.
The toys under the Christmas tree along with the stockings full of candy... they didn't matter nearly as much as Armin's dream meant.
This was all he ever wanted. Was it too much to ask? Was it too much to wish for? To pray for? Was it too much? It would appear so.
Because every Christmas Eve, Armin would make the same wish under the same shooting star. And no matter how many years have passed, and no matter how many times he made the same wish... it never came true.
But how is it each year everyone's wishes, hopes, and dreams come true except for his? The others always got what they wanted. So... why couldn't he?
Another Christmas Eve has passed, and like always, Armin made the same wish under that same shooting star. Armin wakes up that following morning for nothing to have changed.
Like always, he made the same wish. Like always, the wish never came true. Like always, freedom and peace was only an illusion. Nothing more than a childish dream.
After eating breakfast with his grandfather, Armin bundles up in his winter coat topped with a soft blue wintry hat. Oh, and Armin didn't forget his warm gloves!
Armin steps outside and walks down the streets. He lifts his gaze up to stare out afar. Like always, the walls surrounded Humanity. Like always, humans were trapped and caged like cattle.
The Titans remained at the top of the food chain, period. And freedom to explore the world outside, along with peace from all the pain and death caused by the Titans... it has remained as it's always been. A futile and hopeless dream.
Armin knocks on a wooden door and shortly after, waits a moment. After his short moment of waiting, the door opens up to reveal Carla Yeager, his best friends mother. Immediately upon the door swinging open, Armin could feel the nice embrace of warmth that came from inside the house.
Armin is welcomed inside and Carla guides Armin to where coats and etc can be both hung and kept. Carla disappears into the kitchen, whooping up some ravishing Christmas dinner!
Armin removes his hat, gloves, and winter coat and puts them away. He steps into the main room from where he finds his two beloved friends.
Eren and Mikasa sat together under the Christmas tree. By the looks of it, Mikasa crochet Eren a cute little doll. Both of their attention shifted however, when they noticed Armin's presence in the room.
What was only happy and calm expressions fixed upon their faces a moment ago, instantly turns into a reflection of worry and concern.
There stood their best friend, Armin, who came for a visit, as expected. It was Christmas day after all! Christmas is a time to spend with friends, family, and the people you love who surround you.
But Armin was not his usual self. Tears blurred his vision as he quietly sobbed, his shoulders quaking. "Armin, what's wrong?! What happened?" Eren stood up with Mikasa and hurried over to the blonde, concerned over what could have caused Armin to be in tears!
After a short second went by, Eren took a wild guess. "Hold on... don't tell me it's those bullies again!!" The hot emotions of anger and hatred stained itself on the boy's face.
"N-No, I didn't run into any of them." Whimpered Armin as he started to wipe away his tears forming from the corners of his eyes.
"Then why are you crying?" Eren's anger dispersed and his tone eased. "Because... my wish never came true." Armin began. Armin saw the confusion in both Eren and Mikasa's eyes and decided to explain.
"Every Christmas Eve, as stuipid as it sounds, I... I make a wish upon a shooting star. I wish... for the peace and freedom the Titans have stolen away from us to return. I wish... I could see the Ocean together with you and Mikasa!"
While telling his best friends this, tears continued to stream down from Armin's eyes like an overflowing river. "Armin, enough. Stop crying." Eren shushed while Mikasa wiped the remaining tears from Armin's eyes.
"H-Huh?" Armin snapped out of his crying. "Days of peace and freedom will one day come. Someday, in the future, you, me, and Mikasa will not only explore the vast world together... but we will be able to live much peacefully lives without so much struggle and pain. Armin... one day the three of us will be free. I will make sure it happens. Your wish and your dream will come true. I swear it." Eren swore to Armin and Mikasa.
"But... even if it were not to come true..." Eren adds. "We will always be together. Because weir family."
"Eren... Mikasa... thank you!" Armin released a smile and shed one final tear. But this tear... it was not a tear of sadness. But a tear of happiness.
For the rest of the day, the Shiganshina trio spent Christmas day together, full of much joy.
Even if both my wish and my dream fails to come true... as long as I have you both... I'm happy.
