Author's Note: I probably could have made this into a longer story than I made it be, but...oh well, at least it's short and sweet. Enjoy! :)
It was yet another expedition beyond the walls. And with there being another expedition beyond the walls, there was more pain and heartbreak to follow along with it.
If you are to become a soldier, and if your aim is to join the scouts, then you must be prepared to not only make sacrifices, but to witness the death of your comrades.
And watching death occur around you every time your out on the battlefield, it can be a hard thing. Some can't and won't even be able to get over it. But if you are a true scout, you must endure and move forward. Because it's the only way.
Kiyomi cried into Mikasa's chest as the raven girl gently caressed her head. Mikasa tried to not break down before the sobbing girl whom she was trying to comfort.
"It's okay." Mikasa whispered in Kiyomi's ears while continuing to caress her head. "But it's not...! He's dead, and it's because I wasn't there for him! If only I was there, by his side, he wouldn't be..."
Kiyomi's voice began to get more horse and frogy than it originally was, but the sound of rustling footsteps approaching caused her his and sobs to come to an erupt pause.
Kiyomi lifts up her gaze from Mikasa's chest and turned around to be face to face with the one she thought to be dead.
"K-Kiyomi...?! What's wrong? Your covered in tears!" Armin Arlert gasped at the pitiful sight before rushing to the girl's side.
Kiyomi wanted to cry out and tell Armin how she thought he was dead, but her throat wouldn't allow her voice to come out.
And Kiyomi couldn't bring herself to tell Armin such a thing because she knows how much it bothers him being told something along these lines. It makes him feel weak, useless, and nothing more than a burden.
And that's what he self loathed most about himself. So Kiyomi didn't dare to bring up what she had originally thought came to be.
Instead, knowing words would never do any good, or words would never be enough, she grabbed and squeezed Armin into a tight but warm hug.
Armin was shocked but calms down, wraps his arms around her in return. The two simply held each other for a few moments, happy and glad to be blessed enough to have survived and to be able to share this blissful moment together.
"I'm so glad...that I...that you survived." Voiced Kiyomi as she continued to hold Armin as he did her.
"As do I." Smiled Armin, continuing to hold the girl in his arms, forever more.
