Kiyomi lived an ordinary life in the town of Bellmare. It was a peaceful town protected by the veterans and governors. It was a simple life, but Kiyomi was ok with that, knowing she should dream smaller like everyone warns her.
But despite that, Kiyomi finds herself visiting Bellmare's public library every day to borrow books to fill her head with. Even if she can't have grand adventures like her heroes in her novels do, at least she is allowed to dream it in her imagination.
Perhaps, growing up as a kid, that was why she looked up to pirates so much before realizing how much of a bad influence they actually were. Maybe it's because they are able to live their lives freely while going on so many adventures across the land and sea, she thought they were so cool...
"Kiyomi? Kiyomi!!" A Stern and demanding voice Yanks her out of her dream. "H-Huh?!" Kiyomi jerks her head up from her book to see her childhood friend Alita.
She had a Stern look, but it eased away as a smile curled up on her face. "Let's take you back home, shall we? Your parents are expecting you. They say there are guest to be greeted upon in your household."
"Guest? Are they unexpected?"
"Well... actually, from what they told me, they are expected guest. But I suppose they just didn't bother to tell you til..."
Kiyomi sighs heavily before she groans, "I wished my parents would tell me these things ahead of time." Alita giggles towards Kiyomi's frustrated reaction. "Well, they also said there would be a surprise. So...that might explain part of why they didn't bother to tell you." Alita added.
"Hm...you know, that makes a lot more sense. Do you mind coming with me?"
"Well...I don't know. This seems like an important family gathering between nobles. I wouldn't want to disrespect or get in the way of--"
"Alita, please, don't start to say such things! As I told you before, I think of you as a treasured friend. It doesn't matter to me what social standings you stand upon. Whether it be Noble or commoner. I want you to come because I trust you and you've always been there for me. My parents will surely not mind. And if they do, I will simply give them a piece of my mind." Kiyomi chuckled towards the end. Alita's smile grew wider.
"It makes me so happy that you feel that way. Alright then, I'll come with you!" Alita agreed to accompany her without any worries hovering over her any longer. So Kiyomi and Alita walked down the street on the way to Kiyomi's house.
As the two walked besides each other, Alita eyed Kiyomi's book. "You sure do like to read a lot." Kiyomi smiles as she glances over to her. "Of course I do. It's like...an escape." Alita's brows lifts in a way confusion was clear to see on her readable face.
"An...escape? From what?"
"From reality. It's kinda like...ending up in a completely different world. Books, they kinda...help you understand the feelings of others, understand the world around you and...when life gets tough, it's something that allows you to relax and get your mind off things."
