The flatline sound was still going, and they were all shouting at each other in French..

I heard a loud drill sound, and tried to tone it out, not wanting to know what it was.. They quieted down momentarily, and one of them said something.

I heard them shock her again, and then there was silence for a moment, before there was slow, steady beeping coming from the monitor. I turned around, watching as two of the doctors quickly walked out of the room, having a quiet conversation in French. The other two were doing something for a few minutes, and then came back out.

The one who spoke English walked over to me. "What.. What was that? What just happened?" I asked, still in shock. He pulled off the bloodied gloves he'd had on, throwing them in the trash. "You remember that closed head injury?" He asked. I nodded. "Well, it started bleeding again. There's no telling how long it's been bleeding for. She was gone for a while there. That, combined with the slight swelling in her brain.." He hesitated. "Just tell me." I stated.

"There's a possibility for brain damage. We can't be certain.. There's also a slight chance that she won't wake up. But, let's not cross that bridge until we get there." He explained.

I sighed, glancing over at her room. There were some nurses in there, unplugging the machine and doing something. "What're they doing?" I asked. He glanced over his shoulder. "She needs surgery right away. We need to make sure this doesn't happen again." He replied. "More surgery? Is that safe? That seems like a lot." I asked, watching as they wheeled the bed out of the room. She was still unconscious.

"Yes, but it's a fairly simple procedure. Now, I need to go. But, we'll try and update you as often as we can. Do you know if she has a living-will?" He asked. "What? No. I-I don't know." I commented, confused. He nodded, and then quickly followed the nurses down the hallway...

I hesitated, trying to breathe properly, before walking down the hall, into Harry's room.. Anne was sitting next to his bed, and looked over at me. I nodded, and she seemed to relax..

"What's going on?" Harry asked. "Nothing. Just, some media stuff. I still haven't told them anything, and they've been outside the hospital the entire time." I commented. "Ok.. Well, that's great and all. But why do you look like that?" He questioned.

"Like what?" I asked. "Like you're keeping something from me that's really important." He stated. I didn't respond, trying to make myself relax.

"Is it about Brynn? Was she angry with me?" He asked. I hesitated, knowing I could easily lie to him. But, I shouldn't, and I knew that..

"No. She wasn't angry." I said, running a hand through my hair. The memory of what just happened was replaying in my head, making it harder to relax. "So.. What is it?" He questioned.

I sighed. "Harry, I was in Brynn's room talking to her about this. She'd finally woken up. And, she was still acting tired and sorta out-of-it.. Even when I was talking to her, she couldn't really keep her eyes open for very long.." I started, hesitating.

"And?" He asked. "I realized that she kind-of looked the way she did the morning of this whole incident. And then she passed out, and so I ran out of her room to get the doctors." I continued. He motioned for me to keep going. I sighed. "She flat-lined, Harry.. They spent a lot of time in there, trying to resuscitate her—" He cut me off. "Don't. Please.." He commented, a pained look crossing his eyes. I shook my head. "Harry, they got her back." I said. He looked at me.

"They did? So she's ok?" He questioned. I glanced over at Anne. "They took her back into surgery.. Apparently, her brain had started bleeding again. Which, was the problem in the first place. They don't know how long it had been bleeding for. Could've been days.. But, it caused swelling in her brain.. The doctor warned me that with the swelling, and the fact that she was down for almost five minutes.. There is a small chance she has brain damage.. And, it's possible that she may not wake up." I explained..

The pained look crossed his face again; it hurt me to see him that way. I'd never seen someone look that way. "I did that to her." He murmured. "Harry, what? No, you didn't." Anne commented. "I fell. She was trying to help me get to the couch, and I tripped on the table and fell. Which made her fall. That's when she hit her head. I fell on top of her. It's my fault." He said. "Harry.. You can't blame yourself for this. It's the same thing we told Brynn when she was saying that about you." She explained. He shook his head. "That's different though. I'm the one who chose to get drunk. That was my choice. She didn't force me to drink that much.. She'd gone to sleep." He shut his eyes, pushing his head back..

"She'd gone to sleep.. I'm the one who kept drinking, and couldn't keep myself standing. She came to help me, and I killed her." He murmured. "You didn't kill her, Harry. She's still alive." I stated.

"Ok, but I hurt her. She didn't do this to me, I chose to do this to myself. She didn't choose to have me fall on her and hit her head on the floor. She was only trying to help.. She's always only tried to help me.." He commented, running his hands through his hair.

I sighed, knowing there was no use in arguing with him right now.. I sat down in the other chair, and just hoped this wasn't the way it was going to end.

But the odds were stacked against her...
