"Why?" Came a frazzled voice as she almost tripped over a branch, she shoved at her friend who suddenly pulled a teddy bear out of her backpack, "Why do you have that? Did you steal that from her room?"
Holding the bear up, she pressed at it's paw and suddenly the three friends listened to the sound of a man singing from the bear. All three of them were completely silent until the tune turned off completely.
"I stole it." Sandy admitted while fixing the cowboy hat on the top of the bear's head, "When-When they asked for us to come over, even during all of-" She exhaled deeply, "When they asked for us to come over to pick up our things... that we left in her room. I couldn't-" Sandy brushed her hair away from her face, "I couldn't help it. I figured if we found her... she'd want to-she'd want this."
Marnie shot Sandy a pained look before she wiped at her eyes, "Wouldn't you think her family would want to keep that? With everything they're going through?"
"I know but I also wanted-"
"To listen to his voice sing?" Sierra finishes and just takes a seat on a root that was poking out of the ground, "I'm tired."
"I know." Marnie whispers as her own body tells her to take a break, so she plopped down across from her. At this point, not caring about the dirt that would be sticking to her jeans. "I know. Sandy, we've been out here for hours."
"I just-" Sandy sunk a bit while holding the bear to her chest, playing with it's overalls, "Their last known location was somewhere in these woods."
"And you decided to not tell the police." Sierra shoots at her as her scowl begins to deepen, "You told us instead. And now we're out in the middle of the woods because you think we're going to magically find them. We're not-"
"Sierra, it's not Sandy's fault." Marnie whispers before looking up from the ground in a sigh, "We agreed to come out here. Heck, I agreed to drive us. We're all out here because we miss them. And-and the hope of suddenly finding them... We want that."
Sierra stared up at the lining of the trees and let out a long very sad sigh, "I know. I'm sorry. I'm just tired. It's... It's been Briella this. Ronald that. Zelda this... for-for the past few months. It doesn't even feel like a pandemic anymore to me. How can we basically lose our best friends like that?"
Marnie wiped at her eyes for a moment, "Yeah... You guys' trip... it was in a few weeks, right?"
"Yeah..." Sierra released an exhausted laugh while wiping at her own tears now, "Briella was so excited for it... And now-"
Sandy kicked the ground before putting the teddy bear back into her backpack, "We should keep going."
Marnie only nodded her head in silence before reaching to help Sierra stand up from her spot on the ground. The two girls stared at each other before they slowly followed behind Sandy. Neither of them really spoke to each other. They didn't even talk that often before this. They all kind of fell out of contact with each other, but because of what had happened they started to talk again. Everyone who were friends with Briella, Zelda, and Ronald. They all started to talk to each other about the good times they had with them.
