MATTIA'S POV:
I walked outside and saw Alejandro sitting in his car. His eyes were glued to his phone, so he only noticed me when I knocked on the window. He glared at me for a second before unlocking the doors.
"Hey" I said, getting in and closing the door. He turned his phone off and nodded his head at me.
"Silent treatment? You're better than that" I said, cracking a smile which wasn't returned.
"I'm sorry, I just don't feel like talking to you right now"
"No, I get it" I said, staring down at my hands in my lap. I opened my mouth to apologise, but for some reason it was difficult. I hated myself for that.
"I didn't mean to ruin things between you and Liv"
I looked at Alé in surprise, I thought I ruined whatever they had. Nevertheless, I stayed quiet and waited to see what else he had to say.
"You've never let me be happy with anyone, so I guess I saw Liv as a way of getting back at you"
"What?" I said, my eyes widening "so you were never into Liv?"
I felt my jaw clench but relaxed it when Alejandro started explaining.
"Of course I was into her, I still am, I just thought I could make her happier" he sighed "but it's clear she only has eyes for you, I don't even know why I tried"
I looked at him, unsure of what to say. A visible frown was on his face, I had no idea of how I was meant to make this better. Whatever I chose, someone always ended up getting hurt.
"Maybe it's best for us both to stay away from her" I said after a while. Alé looked at me, shaking his head slowly.
"Don't do that, you both have something, don't just throw it away, I'll be fine"
I opened my mouth to speak but we were both distracted by the front door opening and Liv appearing from behind it. She was on the phone to somebody but started walking away from the house.
"You should probably.." said Alé, nodding in her direction.
"Yeah, I'll catch up with you later man" I said, leaving the car and walking down the same street Liv was on. She hadn't noticed me yet, she was too involved with the person on the other side of the phone.
"Aye, wait!" I called out. She turned around and hung up quickly as I jogged up to her. I looked down at her phone, but it was a black screen already.
"What do you want now?" she said, looking around wearily. She seemed more anxious than annoyed.
"You, duh" I smirked. But she wasn't pay attention and rolled her eyes instead.
"I'm going home" she said, continuing on her walk. But I kept by her side, not wanting to leave her in the dark.
"I'll walk you"
"That's not necessary" she said as her phone started ringing again. She looked at the caller and declined it.
"Who was it?" I asked. But she shrugged her shoulders causally.
"Bella"
I watched as the wind made its way through her jet black hair, making her brown eyes shine even brighter in the moonlight.
"You're gorgeous" I thought out loud.
"Just stop" she said coldly, avoiding eye contact. Her phone started ringing again, but this time she left it in her pocket and waited for it to stop.
"Why don't you answer it?"
"Cause it's not important" she said. I was about to reach for her phone but we were interrupted by a black Rolls Royce pulling up beside us. I raised my eyebrows and Liv facepalmed, becoming uncomfortable. The back window rolled down, revealing a man dressed in a black suit, disguised with black shades. He had messy, light brown hair and a rough scar of a bullet wound just above his collarbone. It was awfully familiar. He was familiar.
"Get in" he said to Liv. His voice sparked something off, I'd definitely heard it before. It was controlling, but there was no promise. I looked at Liv, she was clearly afraid of him, she clearly knew him too. She covered her hands with her hoodie sleeves and took a small step towards the car. But I held onto her wrist, stopping her from getting any closer.
"You don't have to" I whispered. A gun click went off and I stared ahead to see the guy aiming his handgun at me.
"Don't do it, Mattia" he said, the corners of his lips flickering upwards. Again, his voice. It made me so angry not knowing who he was. The dimmed lights in the car didn't help either. I narrowed my eyes at him and reluctantly let go of Liv's arm. He knew me and I definitely knew him, I just couldn't get a name.
