OLIVIA'S POV:
"I told you, I'd rather eat denim" I said, rolling my eyes. But then I had a lightbulb moment, maybe this wouldn't be as bad of an idea as it seemed.
"Well it's your loss" said Maria, standing up and walking over to the door.
"Oh my god I'm kidding" I said, smiling painfully at her. She placed her hand on the doorknob, turning to me with raised eyebrows "I'd totally join you"
"Why the sudden change of mind?" she said, narrowing her eyes at me. I kept the painful smile on my face and shrugged my shoulders. Maria was good at seeing through lies so I had to play my cards right if I wanted her to believe me.
"Dmitri's dead now" I said, watching her frown a little "you need all the help you can get, besides Mattia and I aren't on good terms anymore"
"Why not?" she asked, letting go of the doorknob and leaning against the door.
"I can't trust him" I said, plastering a saddened expression on my face to seem more believable "I can't rely on him for anything"
"Oh, I never knew that" she said, looking at the ground. I watched her for a second, she was believing me, but it was almost like she was feeling sorry for me.
"We just aren't meant for each other" I said. There was an awkward silence as Maria stared at the ceiling.
"So are you going to kill me now or?" I asked.
"Did you and Mattia sleep together?"
I was taken aback when she asked such a personal question so causally. I disliked talking about such matters with random people but I had to stay on her good side.
"No" I lied "I never slept with him, I'm glad now that I think about it"
"Interesting" said Maria, opening the door.
"Where are you going?" I asked, becoming slightly irritated by her nonchalant attitude.
"I'll be back, sit tight" she said, with an awful smile. She looked at me before closing the door and as she did, she reached out, purposely knocking one of the candles to the floor. I watched in horror as the floor caught fire.
"Maria, what the fuck?" I shouted "I thought we agreed that I was joining you!"
"We never agreed on anything" she said "the whole point of you coming here was so that I could get rid of you for good"
"Don't do this" I pleaded, feeling the sweat on my forehead from the flames. But she gave me a smile before slamming the door shut, causing the second candle to fall. I inched backwards in my chair, clinging onto dear life as the flames got closer to me.
"Liv, come on!"
First, I thought it was God. Then I looked up to see Mattia's goofy face staring down at me from a roof window. I was slightly unimpressed, but anyway.
"I'm tied up, come help me" I yelled. He jumped through the window and landed on both feet and started untying me quickly. Once I was free, one of the soldiers gave Mattia a hand up to get out the window. Soon enough, we were both running back to the car, where Giancomo was waiting for us.
"How's your back?" asked Mattia, clambering into the backseat with me.
"It hurts" I said, lowering my voice so I didn't attract too much unwanted attention from Giancomo. Mattia rested his hand on my lower back and kissed the side of my head. I could tell he was feeling guilty about all of this.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that, Liv"
"It's fine, at least I'm safe now" I said, laying my head on his shoulder and closing my eyes.

The next time I opened my eyes I was in Mattia's bed. I looked up as he walked into the room, carrying McDonald's bags in his hands.
"Hey you're up" he said, coming to sit next to me.
"What do you want? I bought pretty much one of everything, whatever you don't want I'll give to Kairi and Alejandro" he said, pulling burgers and chicken nuggets out of the bags. I sleepily rubbed my eyes as I took a Big Mac and fries.
"That's it? I thought you'd be hungrier" said Mattia, taking a burger for himself.
"I am, but I'm so tired" I said, looking at the dark sky outside. Mattia nodded, lying back on the bed as he ate his food. I followed suit, lying next to him with the McDonald's bags in between us.
"What's one thing you really want?" he asked. I looked up at the ceiling as I felt his eyes on me.
"To stay like this forever" I said, breathing slow, ensuring I took all of it in. I turned to face him just in time to catch him smiling at me. He leaned over and smushed his lips onto mine, smiling like a child. I returned him a sleepy smile as I went back to my position on facing the ceiling.
"You taste like french fries" I cringed, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand. Mattia laughed as he reached for his drink and handed me mine.
"No but really, wheres somewhere you've always wanted to go?" he asked.
"I don't know" I said, closing my eyes. I thought about it for a second. I wanted to give him a thoughtful answer but I was struggling to stay awake at the same time.
"I want a white Christmas in Paris" I randomly blurted out "with red roses and Hershey's chocolates and expensive wine"
"Anything else?" he asked.
My eyes fluttered open and I looked at Mattia, clutching the collar of his hoodie and pulling him towards me so we were inches apart. His eyes went wide a little as I smirked at him.
"And you"
