It was New Year's Eve, and I was absolutely shitting myself. My mother was doing my hair in my bedroom as we talked about the ball. Bella was at my makeup table doing her makeup.
"I want to tell you both now that you will have dates."
"What?" We said in unison.
"Two lovely boys from rich pureblood families will be your dates for the evening, your father picked them out."
"This is for an arranged marriage, isn't it?" I asked.
"No, not at all dear. You can't go to a ball without a date to dance with."
"Could we not of picked our own dates?" Bella asked. "Mum, I have a girlfriend for Merlins sake!"
"I'm sorry honey, this was all your fathers doing."
Bella hasn't told father she's bisexual or that she has a girlfriend, but she talks to mum about it all the time.
