Chapter 49
A bit causal

Y/n POV

Regulus is getting better, talking more, cuts are healing, he's coming back to the sarcastic boy he once was. He hasn't told us anything, or not really. He tells us about how mad he is at Sirius, for everything he said. Regulus face is getting more colour as of lately, but something is still off, we've all been in attempt to just ignore it.
But it's not that easy, Regulus isn't the funny, caring, sarcastic and loving boy he was, he's now gloomy, scared and tired. I mean what do you expect from a fifteen year old working underneath the dark lord?

Whispers and rumours constantly filling the school, everyone watching Regulus's every move scared that he's going to do something outrageous. And now, Regulus and Sirius relationship was back to the unhealthy, fighting constantly all over again. I tried to not tell Regulus about what Sirius had said to me, in hope there relationship would stay the same.
But Sage told him, and Regulus was angry, he clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white and little crescent moons formed where his finger nails dug in. On the bright side of things, a ball was coming up, Regulus said he would not go no matter what. Alden and Sage were going together of course. Usually I'd say I would be going with Sirius, but this time I was going with Remus.
As friends.
Only friends.

I know Sirius will be angry, but maybe that's good. He can see everything he's lost.

Y/n POV

"That dress is very pretty!" Remus smiled pointing towards the red silk slip dress,
"Don't you think that's a bit.. causal?" I asked,
"No! It's perfect." Remus smiled.
So I bought it, "Red is Sirius favourite colour." Remus laughed while we walked out of the dress shop in Hogsmeade. "Is that the reason you picked it?" I smiled, "No... well yes." Remus chuckled, "You little-." I laughed while lightly hitting him in the chest.

Remus POV

"Where were you?" Sirius asked while I walked into our dorm, "Library." I lied.
"Of course you were." James inquired, "I'm not always there." I protested, "The only time you're not in the library is when you are with y/n." Peter added and the boys nodded. "I have other friends." I stated, "Who?" James laughed, "Alden and Sage." I smiled, "Your friends with them?" Sirius said in a judging tone. "Yeah and?" I said,
"Fair enough." Peter added.

I laid down across my bed,
"I forgot to tell you guys.. I'm going to the dance with Lily!" James chimed from across the room, "Really?" I asked, "Wow." Sirius added, "I thought this would never happen." Peter chuckled. "At least I have a date!" James smiled,
"I have one too." I smiled,
"Yeah.. who? A hufflepuff?" Sirius asked,
"No." I blankly replied,
"Who is it Moony?" Peter asked,
"Surprise?" I smiled.
"Who are you going with Sirius?" I asked,
"Marlene." Sirius said but there was no smile, if it were y/n he would be jumping up and down with his cheeky smile. "Peter?" James asked,
"Slytherin. His name is Jules Avery." Peter smiled. "Atta boy petey!" Sirius smiled.

I could tell there was pain behind that smile, and now I am terrified when Sirius sees me with y/n.
I'm so dead.

Sirius POV
A hour prior.

I've been waiting to gather all the courage I can to ask y/n to the ball, but I can't.
We're done. Well, she's done with me.
I know I messed everything up, and it will forever be my biggest regret because I lost the girl I loved just out of my emotion. I was scared, excited, and in disbelief. I shouldn't have said anything.
But now, y/n isn't an option so, I need to ask someone else. Maybe if I make y/n jealous she will come running back to me, maybe?

I'd walked into the the Gryffindor common room and I saw Marlene Mackinnon siting on the couch by herself reading, I strolled up to her sitting beside her. "What are you reading?" I asked, "Why do you care." She replied,
"I'm just curious." I smiled. I hated this, I should be asking y/n. "I just had uh question." I said,
"What?" She said now with interest, I hate this.
"Would you like to go to the ball with me?" I said while forcing the most genuine smile I could.
"I'd love too." She smiled.
Why was I hoping she'd say no?
Well now y/n will hate me even more.
"Great." I said while getting up and walking to my dorm, I fell onto my bed burying my head into my pillow. I turned to my side facing my nightstand, there was the necklace that y/n wore everyday. The door opened and there was Remus with a big smile on his face, he was probably with y/n again. But I won't bring it up.

Y/n POV

The day of the ball had arrived quickly, Regulus still refused to go to the ball and said he would stay back and drink fire whiskey.
Sage was wearing a gorgeous black dress with black mesh long sleeves, she looked gorgeous.
Alden was wearing an all black suit and the two of them looked perfect. Remus and I had agreed to meet in front of the great hall so I walked there alongside Sage and Alden. I caught a glimpse of Remus in a black and white suit and he was standing beside Sirius. I strolled up towards Remus, "You look amazing." Remus smiled,
"Thank you, thank you." I smiled,
"You look great as well." I added,
"Thank you, thank you." He mimicked.
"Horrible surprise." Sirius muttered before walking off towards Marlene.
"What was that about?" I laughed,
"I didn't tell them I was going with you.. I said it was a surprise." Remus chuckled.

Time had passed and we'd danced for a bit and shockingly Remus was a good dancer, but I still couldn't help but look at Sirius dancing with Marlene. He looked happy. But I caught him staring every once in awhile. "You still like him." Remus said, "No I don't." I lied,
"Y/n it's obvious." Remus laughed,
"Oh stop always being right! It's annoying." I laughed and looked up to see Sirius and he looked mad, but I couldn't tell if it was at me or Remus. Probably both.

Sirius stormed towards us,
"Wow you stooped real low l/n. Going with my best friend." Sirius shook his head, "We're going as friends, unlike you and Marlene." I laughed,
"Mm well you look head over heels in love with Remus." Sirius snarled. "Maybe I am." I joked and I shouldn't have said it, it ticked him off even more. "I don't know what I saw in you." Sirius said while walking back to Marlene and pulling her out of the ball.
"Merlin." I whispered,
"Merlin is right." Remus laughed.

Sirius POV

Why the fuck did I say that. I didn't mean any of it. Why am I like this?
These were all the thoughts running throughout my head as I pulled Marlene out of the ball,
"You're going to go to the common room, and don't go back to the dance." I demanded,
"Wh-why?" Marlene trembled,
"Because I told you so." I said before walking off.
I turned to see Marlene obeyed and was walking back to the common room.

I walked up to the astronomy tower sitting down and hugging my knees to my chest as I laid my head down on my knees. A tear reached my eye as it fell down my cheek. Why am I so stupid.
I lost her, and I'll never get her back.
