it took a week after the anniversary of jisu's passing for wooyoung to start feeling a bit better. san stayed by his side at pretty much every possible second to make sure he was doing alright, because no matter how much wooyoung insisted he was, san knew that he just didn't want the older to worry.
"can we go to the beach today?" wooyoung asked softly, kissing san's shoulder.
"if you want to, then of course we can."
"but do you want to?"
"woo, i'll go anywhere if it's with you. yeah?"
"san..."
"i'm serious, bub."
wooyoung sighed a bit and nodded, scratching the back of his neck.
"baby... what's wrong?"
"nothing... nothing, i'm okay."
"you don't sound okay, woo..." san whispered, pulling wooyoung into his arms.
"i just feel guilty... i-i'm always the one who chooses where we're going, don't you ever get sick of me doing that?"
"no, i don't. wanna know why?"
wooyoung nodded, frowning.
"i don't get sick of it because when we go someplace that you suggest, you always have the biggest smile on your face. that smile is so rewarding to me and that's why i'm always up for whatever you want to do."
a light blush covered wooyoung's cheeks and he hid his face a bit, beginning to get shy.
"so, beach?" san asked.
wooyoung was about to nod when he felt a pit in his stomach, no longer feeling like it would be a good choice to visit the beach.
"i-i changed my mind... um... can we stay here?"
"bub... what's wrong?"
"i-i just... i don't know."
"we don't have to talk about it right now if you don't want to, but when you're ready i do want to know."
wooyoung nodded a bit, sighing.
"c'mere, baby... come close," san muttered, pulling wooyoung to lay with him.
the two laid peacefully for a while, their legs tangled together and wooyoung's head resting on san's chest. they talked nonsense, bringing up random memories and things they wanted to do together in the future. everything was perfect in that moment. both boys felt content.
"hey, guys?" hongjoong called, knocking on the door.
"what's up, joong?" san responded, sitting up and letting wooyoung's head fall into his lap.
"c-can one or both of you please help? seonghwa slipped and fell in the kitchen and i-i'm not strong enough to get him up..."
"is he conscious?"
"yeah... just really, really sore..."
"does he need to go to the hospital?" wooyoung asked softly.
"he says he's gonna be okay, b-but i'm not sure..."
"okay, joongie... we're coming, yeah?"
the boys got up and met hongjoong at the door, then followed the teary-eyed boy to the kitchen, where seonghwa was already trying to get himself up.
"slow down, hwa. let me help you," san insisted, grabbing seonghwa's hand and kneeling down next to him to get him sitting up first.
"joongie... hey, it's okay," wooyoung whispered, hugging him tightly.
"i-i left the room for a minute! just one minute..." hongjoong cried softly.
"it's okay, joongie. hwa's going to be just fine. c'mon, let's sit."
wooyoung guided him over to the couch and sat down, rubbing the boy's back.
"what the hell did you do, hwa?"
"i lost my footing trying to grab something... we were gonna make cookies."
"and you told joong that you slipped?!"
"well... yeah? i didn't want to upset him. he had already told me to be careful getting everything out."
"jesus christ, hwa. you're sure you don't have to go get seen?"
"100% sure. my back hurts and my ankle is a bit sore but i'm good, just need to rest."
san shook his head a bit and helped seonghwa up, then the older boy limped over to the couch, his arm around san for support.
"joongie... baby, don't cry," seonghwa cooed softly, sitting down next to the boy.
"i-i shouldn't have left! i-i'm s-sorry, seongie..."
"shhh... it's not your fault, baby. i made a dumb mistake and got hurt because of it. it wasn't your fault at all, okay?"
hongjoong continued to cry, seonghwa hugging him tightly and trying to help him calm down.
"hwa," wooyoung whispered, catching the older's attention.
seonghwa looked up at wooyoung, confused. that is, until the younger mouthed kiss him. seonghwa nodded in response, understanding.
"joongie, hey, baby look at me..." seonghwa cooed.
hongjoong looked up at him with big, tearful eyes and seonghwa quickly cupped the boys cheeks.
"it's okay..." seonghwa whispered.
"n-no... i-it's not."
"shhh... my beautiful angel, i promise i'm okay. trust me, yeah?"
"i-i'm n-not—"
seonghwa cut hongjoong off with a soft kiss, the two boys' lips moving perfectly in sync with each other. wooyoung smiled and pulled san back to their room, giving the two some privacy.
"was that—"
"yup. that was their first kiss since they got together."
"no way!"
"yes, way. joongie's been pouting about it for months."
"well, yeah! i would too if i were him."
"seonghwa just wanted to do everything right. he really loves hongjoong..."
"they're still not official, are they?"
"nope, not yet. joongie's okay with it though from what he told me. as long as they're together. seonghwa wants to make asking him special too."
"they have a really sweet relationship..."
"and we don't?"
"no... we do. just sweet in a very different way," san chuckled.
"we're sweet in a very... us way."
"i wouldn't have it any other way though. you know that?"
"i do..."
wooyoung pressed his forehead to san's, smiling small as the older tangled their fingers together.
"i love you... i love us being together... i love this life we have. i really do," san muttered.
"i couldn't have said it better myself. i love you, sannie."
