marina phoenix was sitting in the common room with her friends, amelia bones, laura ryann, and hayden eliz. amelia was sitting on the black velvet chair, laura and hayden were sharing the yellow plump couch, and marina was sitting on the floor, hugging her knees.

"what's scarier, ghouls or ghosts?" laura asked, braiding a piece of hayden's hair. "is there a difference?" amelia asked, not removing her gaze from the fireplace. "yeah, a ghost is an apparition of  a dead spirit, while a ghoul is an undead creature that eats human flesh." marina explained.

hayden laughed. "you sounded like you were reading a textbook out loud." she informed her. marina smiled lightly. "anyway, now that marina explained that, i think a ghoul is scarier." amelia said. "yeah, they eat human flesh." hayden said, running her fingernails up laura's arm, making her shiver.

"i hate to dash out on you girls, but i have quidditch practice." laura said, standing up. she ran upstairs to their dormitory, ran back down with her equipment, and bid the girls goodbye. marina stood up as well.

"i should go as well, stella is waiting for me in the library." she said, brushing off her skirt. "wow, lame." hayden said jokingly, rolling her eyes. marina stuck her tongue out at her and turned on her heel, leaving the hufflepuff common room.

the corridors were loud and crowded, kids laughing and talking and running around. marina walked up some stairs, down some stairs, almost fell off a moving staircase, and finally walked through the library doors.

the library wasnt busy, for it was saturday and a lot of students didn't seem it fit that they spend their weekends in the library, but stella and marina loved reading in the library together.

stella virgo was marina's best friend. she always had been, ever since the second day of their first year, five years ago. stella was a slytherin, so they didn't have many classes together and couldn't eat together, but they always found ways to keep their friendship super close.

marina found stella reading at a table with four chairs, and she slipped into the one next to her. "jesus, marina, don't scare me like that!" stella said, jumping up and slamming her book shut. "relax, all i did was sit down." marina laughed, picking up a book from the stack in front of stella.

"careful, those are the ones i need to check out." stella said. "i can't check out anymore, only five are allowed and i have five checked out." marina sighed, looking at the cover of the book. it was an astronomy book that marina had read over ten times.

"you're finally reading this book!" marina said in surprise, showing it to stella. she had been trying to get her to read it for the past year, but stella was not interested in astronomy, so she always refused.

"i figured it'd be the only way to get you to stop bothering me." stella said playfully, causing marina to gently hit her shoulder. the two began reading in silence, immersed in the world of literature.

after about half and hour, stella said she had to leave because she was meeting a slytherin third year to study, so she gathered all of her books and left. marina sighed and got up to grab another book, and found an astronomy book she hadn't seen before.

she carefully took it out of the shelf and examined it. it wasnt new, that was obvious, the cover was creased and someone seemed to have gotten chocolate on it. she took it back to her table and began reading.

she had been reading for a while when she heard someone slam a book on the table. she looked up, but wish she hadn't.

remus lupin was standing at the table, a smirk on his face.

marina scoffed, grabbed her book, quickly checked it out, and walked out of the library, not looking back at remus.

for as long as marina could remember, she had hated remus and his friends. of course, all of them were extremely aggravating, but remus was next level. remus and marina had always had the highest scores in their classes, and were constantly fighting over top.

marina had to learn the hard way that if you mess with one of the marauders, which was the stupid name they called themselves, you mess with all of them.

so for the entire time marina had been at hogwarts, she had been a target for their pranks. some had been harmless, like dumping water on her or tying her shoes together with a charm. others had been bad, like the night in the astronomy tower.

marina shuddered at the thought of it, and pushed it to the back of her mind. she quickly went back to the hufflepuff common room, where she saw amelia and hayden still sitting in the same position, talking.
