remus stared down at marina in utter horror. her face looked so hurt, and it made him unbelievably upset.
"who did this to you?" he asked again, his voice dangerously low. their other friends stared at the two, a look on confusion and questioning on their faces.
"i just fell down some stairs, okay?" marina snapped, jerking her head away from his hand. "stairs?" remus asked in disbelief. "i'm not stupid, marina."
"i'm telling the truth!" she said, guilt and anger bubbling in the pit of her stomach. remus shook his head.
"can we talk?" he asked, his jaw locking. marina glanced at her friends, who all looked away as though they hadn't been listening and hanging onto every word the two had been saying.
"fine." she snapped, standing up. the two made their way out of the great hall and stopped at the end of the corridor, leaning on the same wall, facing each other.
remus took a deep breath and ran his hand through his hair. "what happened?" he asked. marina rolled her eyes.
"i've told you, i fell down some stairs!" marina snapped. remus scoffed and looked away, rubbing his eyes.
"what staircase?" he asked.
"dormitory."
"when?"
"right after you left."
he looked as though he was about to say something, but someone else beat him to it.
"marina? oh my god!"
remus whipped around to see felix running up towards them, and when he reached marina he engulfed her in a hug.
"what happened?" he asked, releasing her. remus stood behind them, clenching and unclenching his fists, his stomach filling with anger as the two of them stared at one another.
"fell down some stairs." marina said. felix gasped slightly, before gently reaching up to examine her face, only making remus more angry.
"oi, felix, i was kind of talking to her." he said, attempting to his the anger in his voice. felix turned around in surprise.
"oh, sorry, mate, just checking if she was alright." he said, giving him an apologetic smile. "meet me in the library after classes?" he asked, turned to marina, who smiled and nodded. felix asked off.
"he may have believed it, but i'm not." remus said. he took a deep breath. "i'm not trying to be mean, but as a prefect, i think i have a right to know."
marina took a deep breath, seeming to have a battle in her head. "fine." she said at last. "charity got mad at me."
