the next night, marina, amelia, hayden, and charity were all sitting in the dormitory, watching the clock. well, charity wasn't. she was sitting on her bed reading. but the other three were.
madam pomfrey said they should go and get laura from the hospital wing at exactly 7:30. it was only 6:54, and they were getting impatient. suddenly, the door slammed open.
"you bitches really thought i would forget everything?"
the four girls immediately turned their attention to the door and saw laura standing in the door frame. she had a large bandaid wrapped around her head, but otherwise she looked completely fine.
"laura!" hayden squealed, rushing up and hugging her tightly. "careful, careful! if i mess these bandages up madam pomfrey will kill me!" laura warned, hugging her back.
"i thought we were supposed to come pick you up at 7:30?" amelia asked, hopping off her bed and walking towards laura and hayden. "you were, but i convinced madam pomfrey to let me go early." she explained.
laura and marina made eye contact and marina gave a very awkward smile, which laura returned with a half smile and a small shrug.
"wait, so did you actually forget us?" hayden asked. laura took a deep breath. "technically i didn't lie when i said that i forgot your last names." she said, scratching the back of her neck. "but...i did lie when i said i didn't know who sirius was."
"laura!" the dormitory scolded. "he was worried sick!" hayden said, tossing her arms up. "it was just a harmless prank." she defended. "prank or not, he was so nervous! he didn't even leave the hospital wing!" amelia informed her.
"well, he was not there when i woke up." laura snapped. "he probably was at dinner! which is where we should go!" charity spoke. "for once, i agree. i'm starving!" laura responded, wheeling around and walking out of the dormitory.
the girls all went to the great hall, and the moment they walked in they were greeted by sirius, who had literally jumped out of his seat to see laura. "laura! hey! hi, how are you?" he asked upon arriving. he seemed tense.
"i'm sorry...who are you?" laura asked him. hayden nudged her elbow and she groaned. "i'm fine, sirius." she said. sirius clearly couldn't contain his excitement and tackled her into a hug.
hayden nodded her head towards the hufflepuff table and her, marina, amelia, and charity left laura and sirius and sat down at the table.
"oh, hayden, i never asked, what did peter talk to you about yesterday in the library?" marina asked, grabbing a piece of bread and butter from the center of the table. hayden turned slightly red.
"he...well he asked me to the delphinus ball." she said awkwardly. amelia spat out her pumpkin juice. "he did what?" she asked, looking at her incredulously. "it's not my fault! stop looking at me like i committed a sin!" hayden said defensively.
"what did you say?" charity asked. marina rolled her eyes. of course charity wanted to know.
"i just told him i'd think about it. that's all." hayden said, turning redder and redder by the second. "you told a cheater you would think about going to the ball with him?" amelia asked.
"listen, apparently remus is finding evidence that he didn't cheat on me." hayden explained. "let's just say that he did find it and peter actually didn't cheat on me. then what?"
"well i can tell you that you don't go to the ball with him!" amelia snapped. "okay, okay, now that i have said it outloud, it was kind of stupid..." hayden muttered.
"marina! marina!"
marina whipped her head around and saw felix running up to her at full speed. "felix! hey!" she said happily. "we need to talk. right now." he said, grabbing her hand and yanking her away from the hufflepuff table and out of the great hall.
"felix? what's wrong?" she asked, looking at him with confusion in her eyes. "i just heard remus talking about you." he said. "well, technically i heard it from someone who heard him talking about you."
"what did he say?" marina asked, beginning to get nervous. felix bit his lip hesitantly before continuing.
"he said he didn't fancy you anymore."
