the next day, marina was the first to wake up, which surprised her a lot.

she slowly crept out bed, standing on her toes. it was still dark out, so she couldn't see much. she crept over to her trunk, slipped on a robe and walked out of the dormitory and to the common room.

nobody was in there, and she went over to the window. the hufflepuff common room was on the lower floor, so she got a great view of the forbidden forest. she hated going near it, it gave her the creeps.

she sat down on the table next to it and leaned her chin on the windowsill, mesmerized by the beauty of it all.

that's when she saw it.

at first, she didnt think anything of it. stags live in forests all the time, and since she had never been in it. then, a dog followed the stag out. well, she thought it was a dog. it had the shape of the dog and walked like one, but there couldn't be a dog in the forbidden forest, right?

then she saw a person running after them, laughing hysterically. from the distance, she couldn't see who it was. why was there a stag and a dog in the forbidden forest? and why was someone out and awake at this time? do they realize how much trouble they could be in.

marina continued to watch them, and the dog and stag chases around each other, and the boy was laughing.

then they saw her. well, she thinks. the dog seemed to make eye contact with her, and alerted the person, who turned around in utter horror. he ran quickly back into the forest, closely followed by the stag and the dog.

she waited for them to emerge again, but never did.

what the hell?

later that day, marina, amelia, laura, and hayden were sitting at the great hall, eating dinner and trying to figure out an explanation for that marina had seen that morning.

"you're sure that you saw that? i mean, maybe you were just tired! you never wake up that early!" amelia said. marina shook her head as she adjusted the bandaid on her elbow, for it had been falling off. "i'm definitely sure!"

"do you think it was a dream?" laura asked. "no! it was real! i mean, i saw it!" marina said, getting quite impatient that her friends didnt believe her.

"maybe a dog and stag do live there! maybe someone befriended them, and the only time they could see them was early in the morning!" hayden said thoughtfully. "that would be the only reasonable explanation!" amelia said.

"guys! animagi!" laura said, slamming her hand on the table. "animagi? what about animagi!" marina asked. "it would be animagi! the dog and the stag could be people here!" she said. "no one here would illegally turn into an animagus." hayden said. "how do you know they did it illegally?" amelia asked.

"i researched the animagi that have been registered in the past couple of years. nobody from here was on the list." she said. "why did you look that up?" laura asked suspiciously. "professor mcgonagall mentioned something about it, and i got curious." she said, shrugging.

after twenty more minutes of going back and forth with the issue, they decided that it was probably what hayden had said about there just being a stag and a dog in the forest, and went up to the common room. remus would be there at seven, so marina got the chess ready.

the hufflepuff common room was semi-crowded, but everyone was always bringing people from different houses, so she knew nobody would care.

half past six, she snuck into the kitchens, and asked for two cups of tea, which one of the house elfs by the name, opal, happily brought to her. she gave opal a hug and snuck back out of the kitchens, carefully walking to make sure she didnt spill the tea.

she made her way back to the common room and placed the tea at the same table as she had placed the chess board. she made sure all the places were right, and thats when hayden, laura, and amelia waltzed over to her.

"getting ready for your date with remus?" laura asked playfully. "it's not a date." marina said, rolling her eyes. "sure, sure." laura said sarcastically, flopping down on the yellow plush couch.

"hey, its ten minutes 'till, maybe you should head out there." amelia said, glancing at her watch. "yeah, i should, promise you guys won't tease me or him?" marina asked, brushing off her dress, which was just a plain blue with short mesh sleeves. "promise!" hayden said.

marina quickly walked out of the common room, only to find remus waiting across the hall, looking down the corridors. marina cleared her throat.

"oh, hey, phoenix." remus said cooly, walking over to her. "hello." she said stiffly. "are you ready to lose?" he asked, getting closer to her so marina had to look up to make eye contact with him. "i should be asking you that." she said as she turned on her heel and walked back into the common room, leaving the door open for remus.

the pair walked in, and marina showed him wear they would be sitting. he sat down and stared at the tea. "are you trying to poison me?" he asked, picking it up and staring at it. "i don't know, am i?" marina asked playfully, a smile forming on her lips. remus smirked at her. "shall we begin?" he asked. "we shall." marina said.

"ladies first."
