"laura!" marina called as she burst into the common room after classes.

laura looked up from her quidditch book in surprise. "what's up, goldilocks?" she asked as marina collapsed into the chair next to her.

"i have a job for you." marina said. laura looked at her suspiciously. "does it involve breaking the rules?" she asked. marina shook her head and laura sighed. "what is it?"

"you aren't allowed to tell anyone what i'm about to tell you." marina said seriously. a grin grew on laura's face, but she nodded.

"so, i think i might like lupin as more than a friend." marina said quickly. "knew it!" laura said loudly, standing up and thrusting her fist in the air. "shush!" marina hissed, making her sit back down.

"okay, so what do you need me to do?" she asked. marina took a deep breath. "i need you to ask him what he thinks of me." she explained. "i'll stand somewhere near but unseen, and listen in."

laura shrieked with delight. "let's go! i'm so excited!" she said, grabbing marina's hand and pulling her out of the dormitory.

"if i remember correctly, hayden said that the marauders were planning a prank on the sixth floor, so let's look there." laura said and marina nodded.

the two girls raced up the steps and were about to turn a corner when they heard james say, "moony, put the damn astrology book down and get over here!"

"stay here." laura whispered and marina backed up against the wall as she turned the corner. "hello, boys." she said.

they all turned their attention towards her. sirius and james had dungbombs in their hands. "i won't ask." she muttered before turning to remus.

"lupin! a word?" she asked. they got closer to the corner marina was leaning against she listened carefully.

"am i in trouble?" he asked. "depends." laura said simply. "what do you think about going to the ball with marina as friends?"

"i'll be honest, i hate it." remus said simply. "do you hate it because you guys are just friends?" laura asked.

"no, i hate it because i don't want to go with her. like, at all." remus said. marina's jaw dropped and she lost harder. "excuse me?" laura asked.

"listen, i know your her friend and all, but she gets exhausting! i really just said yes so i could make charity jealous." remus explained. "charity?" laura asked. "i mean, of course charity will be jealous if i go with phoenix!" remus said.
