"i'm so proud of you!" james said, ruffling remus' hair. remus laughed before pushing him off.

the marauders were walking to the great hall for breakfast the next day, and remus had just told his friends about him making out with charity.

"what about marina?" peter asked. remus looked at him oddly. "what about her?" he asked.

"oh, i always just assumed you liked her." he responded, shrugging. "why would i like her?" remus asked. peter shrugged.

though he would never admit it in a million years, remus had considered dating marina. but he thought about it for a long time, and ultimately decided that there was no way she would ever like him, so he quickly moved on.

that's what he told himself.

so, when charity very obviously began showing feelings for him, he didn't back down, and when she kissed him, he kissed back.

sure, it felt wrong, but no girl had really fancied him before like that, so he figured it wouldn't hurt. he did tell her he wanted to remain friends, as he knew he did not want to be in a relationship with her.

"how did it even happen?" sirius asked. "she started it. i just went with the flow." remus said cooly.

"our little moony is growing up!" sirius said, wiping a fake tear from his eye. "oh, grow up." remus said, rolling his eyes and laughing.

they turned the corner and saw marina, laura, hayden, and amelia walking with each other, talking in low whispers.

curious to what they were talking about, the four boys moved closer to them, close enough to hear what they were talking about.

"you'll never believe what i did last night." marina said. "what?" laura asked. the marauders looked at each other oddly.

"i snogged ludo bagman." marina said.

"what?" remus said out loud, making the four girls turn and his friends stop walking. "oh, sorry, lupin, didn't see you there." marina said, a smug smile on her face.

"you snogged ludo bagman?" remus asked, disgust painted on his face. "none of your business." laura growled, narrowing her eyes.

"slag." james said, fake coughing into his arm. everyone's attention turned to him, and he gave an innocent smile.

"fucking what?" laura asked. james' smile slowly fell off his face, seeing the girls anger. "i just coughed." he squeaked, looking quite worried.

"oh, you little bitch!" she said, and before anyone could stop her, laura had ran over and punched james across the faces, knocking his glasses to the ground.

"laura!" amelia gasped. her and marina ran over to laura as she kneed james in the chest as he doubled over from punch.

"let me kill him! i'm going to kill the bastard!" laura yelled, as marina and amelia grabbed each of her arms, pulling her away as sirius and peter ran to check on james.

"don't you dare call marina that again!" hayden said angrily, glaring at the four boys.

"i'm so done. it's not even nine in the morning."
marina groaned, before turning and stomping away.

"good going, prat." laura said. she spat on the ground next to james before turning and walking off with her friends, who were chasing after marina.

"what the hell is wrong with them?" james asked, sitting up and rubbing his nose as sirius handed him his glasses. remus just stared at marina, who was running away rather quickly.

"i mean, you did call her a slag." peter said, looking quite guilty, even though he had done nothing. "and? i'm just being honest." james said, rolling his eyes.

that's when remus couldn't take it anymore.

remus walked over to james and punched him straight across the face, causing sirius and peter to jump back in surprise and fear.

"don't call her that." he snapped, before turning and walking the opposite direction as marina.

"what the actual fuck!" james said, holding his cheek in pain as they all watched remus stomp away.
