the next day, marina got a letter back. she hasn't shown up to breakfast, as she planned on skipping again, so laura brought it up to her.

"you have mail!" she sang, walking in. marina was lying on her bed, reading a book. "oh! give it here!" she said happily as laura handed it to her.

"i'll ask questions about it later, but i can't be late to class." laura said, turning around and walking out. "bye! thanks!" marina called, ripping open the letter and reading it.

dear marina,
we are so very sorry to hear about that. we understand how hard drama can be. we both had our fair share of that at our time in hogwarts. we discussed it through letters with dumbledor (i believe he already knew how badly you wanted to leave), so friday you will be taking the train from hogsmeade back home. i have no idea when you will leave that day, but i am going to ask you to please try and go to classes. if you aren't feeling up to it, it's alright, but please at least try. we will see you friday!
love,
mum & dad

marina let out a happy squeal and quickly put the letter under her pillow. she didn't want to tell her friends, as she knew they would get mad for leaving them.

she would just simply not tell them.

on friday, marina decided to go to classes. she woke up at nine, which was when breakfast started, so she quickly got dressed, packed her trunk, and left.

she barely made it on time to transfiguration, and immediately regretted it when she saw remus sitting down. he was facing away, but marina sat diagonally in front of him, so he would surely notice.

"marina!" hayden said happily. marina internally groaned as the class turned around. she smiled weekly and sat down next to laura and amelia,

"feeling better?" amelia asked. "yeah, i guess." she sighed. "thank goodness you made it to this class, i didn't want to tell professor mcgonagall you were out." laura said, fake shuttering.

"marina! psst! marina!" she heard someone whisper from behind. immediately, she knew it was james. she turned around in her seat.

marina could feel remus' eyes on her, but she just stared at james. "how are you feeling?" he asked in a stage whisper. "i was feeling better, until you started talking to me." she said sarcastically, giving him a fake sweet smile.

"wow, salty." james muttered, clutching his chest like marina had deeply wounded him. "salty like the ocean, potter." she sighed, turning back around.

"hope you feel better." remus said. marina turned back around to him. "thanks, remus." she said, smiling at him.

once she turned around, remus gave sirius a fist bump. "she said your name!" james mouthed to him, waving his hands around like a crazy fan girl. peter gave him a silent high five.

class began, and marina was taking two notes. one for herself, and one for laura, who had already fallen asleep. that's when professor dumbledor walked in, and everyone sat up and looked towards him. even laura woke up.

"i need miss phoenix to come with me. you're going home." he said, scanning the room for her. "what?" laura whispered as marina stood up and grabbed her stuff. "bye, guys." she whispered, slinging her bag over her shoulder and walking out of the classroom after dumbledor.

remus watched them go, his mouth slightly opened and a sad expression on his face.

dumbledor lead marina to the carriages outside of the school and told her what would be happening.

"you'll arrive at hogsmeade station, and the train will already be there. it's just the normal train, so many people will be on it. get off at the second stop, and that's where your parents will be." he told her. she nodded.

"what about my trunk? it's upstairs." she informed him. "it's right next to you." dumbledor said, and marina looked over to find her trunk. "see you soon." he said, turning around and striding back into the castle.

the carriage ride was boring, considering she was so used to being surrounded by people. the train ride was even worse; nobody sat near her and there wasn't even candy being sold. how lame.

marina was excited to be going back home, though. her family used to live in a small apartment in the middle of london, but last year they moved to a big ranch just on the outside of a small town. it was quiet beautiful and she loved being there.

the train hit the second stop, and marina grabbed her stuff and rushed out of the train, excited to be back home.

"mum! dad!" she cried once she saw her parents. they raced towards her and engulfed her in a hug, even though they saw her two months ago and they normally don't see her for much more than that.

"we missed you!" her mum said once she released her. "i missed you guys too!" she said. "now, you'll have to tell us everything in the car, i know you've had an interesting year so far..." her father said, and marina grinned.

with that, the phoenix family went home.
