"so he took house points from my house, and not his house." stella asked, taking a bite of her toast. "yup." marina said bitterly.
the next morning, marina didn't even bother in going to the hufflepuff table for breakfast, but instead made a beeline for the slytherin table, and after stella kicked severus in the shins to move, told stella everything that happened last night.
"i hate him!" stella said, smashing her toast down in rage. "that makes two of us." severus, who had been listening in, said. "make it three." regulus, who had also been listening in, muttered. "is everyone listening in?" stella asked, and the two boys quickly looked down at their food.
"so we lost five points over something that was most likely a gryffindor's fault? great." stella mumbled. "i agree, it's stupid." marina sighed. "why couldnt you have just, i don't know, added points to us?" severus asked. "i'm not a prefect." marina snapped. severus rolled his eyes.
"i still don't understand the why they were dueling." stella said. "from what i understood, the gryffindors insulted slughorn, so the slytherins insulted them, and i guess they just started firing at one another." marina said.
"that's stupid," regulus said, and stella, marina, and severus all nodded in agreement.

marina's first class of the day on tuesdays was potions, so she was sitting with her head in her hands, listening to slughorn drone on and on about felix felicis. marina assumed they were supposed to be taking notes, but nobody seemed to be doing that, so she didn't bother.
it was only until slughorn pointed at marina that she payed full attention.
"miss phoenix," he said in his cheerful voice. "yes sir?" marina asked, sitting up quickly. "how long would it take to brew felix felicis?" he asked, coming towards the table she shared with amelia.
marina thought hard, but she had apparently zoned out during this part of the lesson. "i don't know, sir." she said, her cheeks turning red. slughorn sighed.
"very well. does anyone else know it?" he asked, walking away. marina quietly groaned and slammed her head on the desk, amelia rubbing her back sympathetically.
"mr. lupin, i saw your hand first, do tell me." she heard slughorn say, and she quickly shot her head up and turned around. remus was looking straight at slughorn, a smug smile playing on his lips.
"it's six months, sir." remus said. "correct! five points to gryffindor!" slughorn said. he turned around to walk back to the front of the classroom, and remus looked at marina.
he didn't say anything, but he had such an expression on his face, marina balled up her fists and bit her tongue.
they stared at one another for a while, until slughorn cleared his throat very loudly, and they both snapped their heads to him.
"as you all know, the delphinus ball is coming up in a months time," slughorn said. amelia and marina looked at each other, fighting the urge to giggle.
every year, the fifth, sixth, and seventh years have a ball on new years eve, and this year they would finally be allowed to attend it.
"we expect the boys to be in nice robes or a suit, and the girls in dresses. please do not wear short dresses, we don't want another incident like last year." slughorn said.
what the hell happened last year?
i wrote this while my friend read sirius black smut on MY phone.
