remus lupin hated snow.

he hated the cold feeling on his skin, the way it sounded when you stepped on it, the look of it, everything.

so, when he woke up to sirius black and james potter yelling, "it's snowing! it's snowing!", he was less than pleased.

"moony! pete! it's snowing!" james yelled, hopping onto remus' bed. remus groaned and dug his head into his pillow. "come on!" james yelled, grabbing remus' arm and pulling him upward. "james, we have classes." peter pettigrew called from his bed.

"i know, but after!" james said, angrily shoving remus to the floor. "the hell?" remus groaned as his body hit the floor. "we will have all winter break to go play in the snow." he said, standing up and brushing himself off.

"moony, i literally told you yesterday me and sirius are going home for the break. mum is having a party on christmas day!" james said excitedly. "what about that ball thing?" peter asked, walking past them to the bathroom. "we're just going to floo back. already asked dumbledor." sirius explained, shrugging.

"anyway, mum wants you guys to come." james said, grabbing his clothes from his trunk. "i can't go." remus said. "mate! it's christmas! you have to!" sirius whined. "yeah, moony, why can't you go?" james asked, taking off his shirt and slipping on his polo one.

remus looked at them both incredulously. "i'll give you one fucking guess."

after classes that day, remus ran up to the dormitory before anyone else could, and ran into his bed. james, peter, and sirius had spent the majority of class time dicussing all of the fun things they were going to be doing in the snow, and remus did not want any part of it.

once the three others had reached the dormitory, they all began getting dressed. "moony, hurry up, the faster we get dressed, the more time we have!" sirius said, slipping on a coat that matched james'. "did your mum buy us the same coat?" sirius asked james, who shrugged.

"i don't want to go." remus informed them. sirius threw a pillow at his head. "we are going." james said.

after about twenty minutes, sirius, peter, and james were finally able to convince remus to go outside, even though he knew he was not going to enjoy himself.

the four boys made their way out into the courtyard, and were about to start a snowball fight, when james got hit in the head with a big snowball, knocking his glasses to the ground.

while james bent down to feel for his glasses, the three others turned around to see lily evans and her friends laughing. "evans! did you throw that?" james yelled as he stood up, slipping his glasses back onto his face.

"yeah!" lily yelled back, making her friends laugh even harder. "told you she was in love with me." james said, running a hand through his hair. "watch this." sirius said, picking up a handful of snow and chucking it at the girls.

it missed lily but hit the girl next to lily, who, from that distance, the boys could not tell who it was. "oh, it's on!" dorcas meadows yelled. everyone grabbed snow and began throwing it, not really caring who they hit.

remus didn't enjoy being hit, but he did enjoy the satisfaction of hitting someone, no matter who it was.

after half an hour, everyone was covered in snow, and laughing hysterically. there weren't teams anymore, everyone was just having fun.

"i think we should start the head back!" marlene mckinnon said, and the other girls walked over to her.

sirius quickly grabbed more snow and threw it, hitting the same girl who he had hit previously, but her face was covered in so much snow it was hard to see.

"sirius!" lily said, wiping the snow off her her, and revealing marina phoenix.

remus was suddenly glad he had hit her.

"it's fine. but this isn't over." marina said, fixing her hat. the girls walked off. remus noticed marina holding a book, but didn't think anything of it.

"that was fun!" peter said happily.
