marina was so relieved when her grandparents left. she could finally be left alone with her thoughts, which had been running wild ever since she talked with eleanor.
she fancied remus. marina was mad at herself for liking him, but also mad at herself because she didn't realize.
she was sure he fancied her. sure, she could be oblivious, but she replayed almost every interaction she had had with him. he had to like her. right?
just to double check, she wrote a letter to amelia. she explained what had happened and asked her to talk to him about it, but to not let the other girls know. marina had a bad feeling about it, but sent the letter anyways.
two days later, she got a very lengthy letter back while she was eating dinner with her family. she stood up to go upstairs and read it, but her mom shot her a look so she sat back down and continued reading.
"so, when will i be returning to hogwarts?" marina asked as she stirred her soup around. "there's a train leaving friday at eleven in the morning, so you would arrive right before dinner friday night." her mum told her. "is that alright?"
"yes, that should be okay." marina said, nodding her head slightly. they ate the rest of their dinner in silence, and the moment everyone was finished and she had taken her bowl in the kitchen she raced upstairs and ripped open the letter, collapsing on her bed and reading it.
dear marina, i hope this letter finds you well. we all miss you here. don't worry, i didn't show the girls anything, though charity did try and grab the letter from me. don't worry, she didn't read it. once i told her it was personal, laura came up from behind her and pushed her to the ground, giving me a chance to grab the letter and run away. i actually read the letter in a broom closet. no complaints, it smelled like sweets in there (i assume a failed marauders prank). but anyways, upon reading your letter i went on a hunt to find lupin, which, no surprise, he was in the library. but, to my shock, the marauders weren't there. he has been wondering off from his friends these past few weeks, hasn't he? anyway, i questioned him about you. laura always taught me to just rip the plaster off, whatever that means. so, i just asked him. "do you fancy marina?" that was what i said. you should have seen his face! it was priceless, marina, priceless! it went from sad, to happy, to mortified in a matter of five seconds. i almost laughed in his face, but i pulled myself together and waited for his answer. and you'll never believe what happened. he looked around like he was in one of those old muggle movies and leaned in really close. his breath smells like peppermint, by the way. he told me that he did! what an idiot! he told your dorm mate that he fancies you! as if i wasn't going to go straight to you. i suppose that's the good thing about being quiet in front of everyone, they think you're trustworthy. he told me not to tell you anything, and immediately left. i told him i wouldn't talk to anyone about it. technically, i'm writing, not talking, so i kept my promise with lupin. anyways, i must get going, laura is complaining about how hungry she is and hayden won't shut up about peter. i do think that laura only wants to go down to the great hall early is to see sirius. the two have been very close since you left, if you know what i mean. come back soon! miss you very much! amelia
marina tossed the letter onto her bed. it was finally confirmed. she was breathing heavy and totally freaking out. but, for some reason, that letter had given her a boost of confidence, so she grabbed her quill and wrote another letter.
dear remus, i know. marina
marina put the letter in an envelope and gave it to her owl, who gave her a glare before soaring away to the hogwarts castle.
marina regretted sending it the moment her owl was out of sight.
i hate this chapter :/
