remus hated when people who weren't family wrote letters to him. he could tolerate when peter or sirius or james wrote him a letter, but when anybody else did it, he most likely would rip up the letter and toss it in the trash without a second thought.
so, when an owl came swooping down and the envelope was clearly from the hufflepuff common room, peter wasnt surprised when remus ripped it in half and tossed it to the side. but he still brought it up.
"that could have been important, you know?" peter said, ripping apart a piece of toast. "really? who from hufflepuff is important?" remus asked. peter opened his mouth, surely to say hayden, but remus shot him a look and he closed it.
"anyway, what would it be, other than someone begging me to do their schoolwork?" remus asked, a grin playing on his face. "it could be someone confessing their undying love for you." peter joked, making remus snort.
the two ate their food in silence for the rest of breakfast, peter occasionally turning back to look at hayden. hayden didn't notice, she was to deep into a conversation with laura and marina, her face serious and her hands over her mouth.
"aren't sirius and james coming back today?" peter asked. remus shrugged. "today or tomorrow, can't exactly remember." he said.
they got their answer hours later, while walking around the courtyard. remus had his nose in a book, and peter was attempting to make a flower crown. then they got tackled to the ground.
peter gasped loudly, while remus, not knowing who it was, jammed his elbow back. "moony!" sirius yelped in pain as remus' elbow made contact with his ribs. "oh, it's you." remus said, rolling over and standing up.
he offered sirius his hand, which sirius took. "don't look at me like." remus said as sirius death stared him. james and peter were now standing up. "sorry we weren't there, moony." james said in a low voice, engulfing remus in a hug.
"it's alright, peter joined me after he finished some important business." remus said, winking at peter, who flushed red. "what did you do?" sirius asked, eyebrows raised. peter shook his head and mumbled, "nothing," so james and sirius turned to remus for an explanation.
"you know that eliz girl in hufflepuff? hayden?" remus asked. james nodded, while sirius shrugged. "she's friends with marina." remus said. sirius then nodded. "our friend peter asked her to the delphinus ball." he finished, slapping peter on the back.
"wormtail!" sirius gasped. "did she say yes?" james asked. peter looked down at his feet and nodded. "that a boy!" james yelped, while sirius squealed like a little girl.
"so, now we need dates." james said, once him and sirius calmed down. "i don't." remus said quickly. "okay, me and sirius need dates." james said. sirius sighed. "i'm surprised ladies haven't been throwing themselves at my feet already." he said cockily, making remus face palm.
"i need to show you guys something." remus said. he took them all to the library, much to sirius' dismay, and led them to the astronomy section. "if you're trying to show us a cool book, moony, you know i love you, but i don't care." james said. remus chuckled and shook his head.
he scanned the shelfs for a couple of seconds, before pulling out the book he had been writing in with the mysterious girl. he was glad he knew the gender, but wish he knew more.
"i've been writing with this girl in this book." remus whispered, flipping open to the page. the three others crowded around him, silently reading what they had been writing to one another.
"just ask her to the ball!" sirius said, once he had finished reading. "i don't even know who she is! she could be a first year!" remus said quickly. "no first year reads stuff like this and writes like that." james said. "still, no." remus said. sirius and james were about to say something, but a couple of second years came around the corner and remus hastily put the book back.
"i don't want anyone finding out i've been writing in a book." remus explained as they exited there library.
the fours boys were wondering the corridor when they passed marina, laura, and hayden. "hi, peter." hayden said, timidly waving at peter, who waved back. "how cute!" james said loud enough for the others to hear.
marina and remus made eye contact, and they both began glaring at one another. once the groups had passed each other, remus heard them all giggling, probably about what james said, and remus turned around. his eyes found marina, and he saw her quickly turn around.
like she had been looking at him.
