it was, in fact, not easy for remus to pretend he didn't know marina was the girl in the mystery book. "moon", as he called her.
the monday after this happened, remus met up with marina during breakfast.
"good morning, lupin." she said as he sat down next to her at the hufflepuff table. "morning, marina." he muttered. marina eyes him oddly.
"what?" he asked, subconsciously wiping his face in case he had gotten food on it. "you seem distracted." marina informed him. "is everything alright?"
"yeah, remus, is something on your mind?" laura asked, propping her elbows on the table. remus scoffed. "nothing is on my mind."
laura snorted. "that's not surpising."
marina picked up a piece of her toast and tossed it at laura, hitting her in the face. laura was about to throw her apple at marina, but sirius sat down next to her, and she dropped it out of surprise.
"oh, hey, black." she said calmly as peter sat next to hayden and james sat next to lily. "woah, gryffindors at the hufflepuff table?" marina asked, raising her eyebrows at all of them.
"oh, shut up, phoenix." james said playfully, winking at her. remus raised his eyebrows at james.
"anyway, why are you guys here?" laura asked, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "just here to see you, doll." sirius said, slinging an arm around her shoulders. laura turned red but put on a disgusted face and elbowed him in the ribs.
"wow, sirius, can't relate." peter sighed, slinging and arm around hayden, who, unlike laura, scooted closer towards him.
remus glanced at marina, who had a mischievous smile on her face. before remus could do anything, she had slung her arm around his shoulders. "guys, just look how cute me and lupin are." she said in a high pitched voice.
the whole table laughed as remus turned just as red as laura did. "calm down, lupin, you don't have to date me." marina said as she released him. "yet." amelia added.

remus' last class of the day was herbology with the ravenclaws, and he couldn't have been more bored.
professor sprout droned on and on about godric knows what, and the whole time remus was lost in his thoughts. specially about marina.
he was still marveled that it was her. but what he was even more confused about, was how marina didn't know that it was him. marina was a smart person, everyone knew that. she should she been able to figure it out. but then again, so should have he.
"moony, let's go."
remus looked up to see everyone packed and ready to go, his friends waiting at the door for him. "sorry, sorry, coming." remus sighed, gathering his things and briskly walking out the door.
the four of them made their way into the gryffindor common room, and sat down on the couch in front of the fireplace.
remus immediately pulled out his defense against the dark arts homework, peter began to read a herbology book, sirius flipped his wand in his hand, and james looked for lily.
"hey, prongs, she's over there." remus said, nodding his head towards the far corner of the room, where lily was standing with mary, marlene, dorcas, and alice.
"excellent. fellows, watch and learn." he said, standing up and running a hand through his messy hair and walking over to lily.
the three others watched as james approached the four of them, said something, and lily stormed off, her friends not far behind.
"you're doing great, prongs! keep it up!" sirius called over from the couch. james rolled his eyes and walked back over to the couch, where they were all laughing.
"i don't know why you two are laughing." he said, looking at sirius and remus. "i'd like to see you have a date with laura and marina."
