marina hopped out of the carriage, her trunk held close and her heart racing. she was back at hogwarts, but didn't know how she felt about it. sure, she was excited to see her friends again, but she didn't know how they would react. she didn't know how she would react.
marina glanced at her watch. dinner would just be finishing up, which meant a lot of people would be in the corridors. she was dreading walking through them.
"miss phoenix! welcome back!"
marina looked up from her watch and saw professor dumbledor walking out of the castle. "good evening, sir." marina said nervously. "you can just drop your trunk, it'll meet you in your dorm." he informed her. marina gratefully dropped it; it was very heavy.
"i'm sure your friends will be excited to see you again." he said as they began walking inside. "they have been quite worried."
"they have?" marina asked. it wasn't that she was shocked...just a little surprised. "yes, i believe mr. lupin as been very nervous for your wellbeing." he said. marina almost stopped walking, but she just nodded.
"i shouldn't be asking this..." he said, twiddling his thumbs. "but, i must know, is there something going between you and mr. lupin?" he asked. marina quickly shook her head and dumbledor sighed sadly.
"well, please pick up the pace. i really do not want to owe professor mcgonagall ten galleons." he said. marina was about to asked him what he meant, but he simply waved goodbye and turned a corner.
did professor dumbledor and professor mcgonagall make a bet on her and remus?
marina couldn't finish that thought, as she heard someone yell her name. she turned around and saw felix running towards her. "felix!" she said happily as he tackled her into a hug. "i missed you! where did you go?" he asked, still holding onto her tightly.
"i went home!" she said as he released her. "why? and why didn't you tell me?" he asked. guilt immediately swarmed marina but she ignored it. "i just had to. there was...a lot going on here." she said. felix nodded in agreement.
"i hope you know i'm not mad that you left the ball early." felix informed her as they started walking further down the corridor. marina let out a sigh of relief. "you had every right to leave. that was a lot." he added.
"oh, marina, i know where your friends are. dorm mates and marauders." he said. "well, i'm a little nervous about seeing them." she admitted, looking down at her feet. "oh, come on. they missed you like crazy." felix argued. "how do you know that?" marina asked.
"whenever i'm in the great hall i can see them talking about you. i'm pretty good at reading lips." he explained. marina laughed slightly. "come on," he said, grabbed her hand and pulling her. "we're going to see them."
"wait! first i need to tell you something." she said awkwardly. "i...i think i like remus? no, no, scratch that. i like remus."
felix gasped before jumping up and down. "yes! yes! yes!" he said happily. "there's more." marina said. felix stopped jumping a looked at her as though she was the most interesting thing in the world.
