"truth or dare?" laura asked amelia as she took a sip of her hot chocolate. "truth. i am not stupid enough to take a dare from you." she responded, winking at the two other girls.

the four girls were sitting in amelia's bedroom. it was the day after christmas and the girls would be staying there for the next three days until they were to go back to school for the delphinus ball on new years eve.

"who are you going to ask to the delphinus ball?" laura asked. amelia turned a deep red and immediately shrugged. "you guys wouldn't understand." she said quickly.

"if you're referring to the fact that you are going to ask a girl, we've known since second year." hayden said calmly. marina and laura nodded in agreement. amelia opened her mouth in surprise, then closed it.

"i suppose i wasn't that secretive about it." she admitted sheepishly. "anyways, back to my question, who is this lucky girl?" laura asked. amelia whispered something inaudible and marina slapped her.

"fine! i kind of want to maybe ask marlene mckinnon." she said quietly. the three girls squealed with excitement and laura began hitting hayden with her pillow. "okay! okay! okay! now be quiet before my mum finds out we are awake!" amelia hissed as she grabbed the pillow from laura.

"okay, my turn." she said, turning to marina with a mischievous grin. "marina, truth or dare?" amelia asked.

"truth." marina responded. "why is nobody picking dare?" laura groaned, falling backwards onto the carpet. "last time you gave me a dare i had to lick my owl." hayden reminded her. laura shrugged.

amelia cleared her throat before going on. "how do you really feel about remus?" she asked. marina shrugged nonchalantly. "i don't really know."

"oh, come on! we all know he apologized and you guys have quite literally been pining over one another for the past year!" hayden exclaimed. "hayden, are you not against me and remus?" marina asked.

"i'm over it, i just want you guys to date!" she said, waving her hand. "i'm just going to wait for him to ask me on a second date." she informed them. "why don't you just ask him yourself?" amelia asked.

"because he needs to beg for her! it's the same thing i do for sirius." laura said. marina nodded in agreement. "boys need to chase." she whispered dramatically. the whole room burst out into laughter.

then the door slammed open and amelia's mum was standing there, her lips pursed and her hands on her hips.

"girls! i adore that you are having a fun time, but please go to bed!" she sighed. "you have to go to the city tomorrow to run some errands as amelia has yet to finish her holiday break chores." she added, giving a pointed look at amelia, who shrank back.

she swiftly turned around and shut the door. the girls listened until they could no longer hear her footsteps and stood up slowly.

"okay, so you guys can put your sleeping bags anywhere, i don't mind, and i suppose my mum will wake us up in the morning." amelia said, hopping into her bed.

"good night, girls." marina whispered. the others said good night and they all went to bed, excited for the next couple of days.

☾☾☾☾

the next morning marina woke up to all of the girls hitting her with their pillows at once. "why do you never wake up?" laura groaned as marina finally opened her eyes and swatted them away.

"i'm a deep sleeper, you guys have known me for six years! stop asking me this!" marina exclaimed, sitting up and rubbing her eyes.

"anyway, get ready, breakfast is in twenty minutes and we need to go into the city in an hour." amelia said, tossing her hair up. "what's for breakfast?" hayden asked.

"probably oatmeal." she responded. marina stood up and slipped on a black stockings, a tan skirt and a white sweater, keeping her hair in the messy ponytail it was in.

twenty minutes later, the girls walked downstairs and sat down at the table with amelia's mum, her father, and her three brothers, alex, adam, and aidan, who were triplets in their second year at hogwarts.

"girls, you need to buy the groceries, i will give you a list, try and find a pair of mittens for adam, a scarf for alex, and some boots for aiden. they can never keep stuff without losing or breaking it." her mum informed them. "i'll give you some extra money if you want to buy something for yourselves, but please do not go overboard."

they nodded, and within the hour they were leaving the house, bundled up against the cold.

"i'm so excited to go see the city again! i used to live in london before we moved out into the country, and i miss it every day." marina sighed, holding her hat to her head so it didn't go flying away.

they arrived in the city and began to shop for the triplets' clothes. "how did aiden lose boots?" hayden asked as she picked up a pair to inspect them. "he didn't lose them, he tore the soles off." amelia informed her as she plopped a pair of gloves into the trolley.

"bloody hell! how did he do that?" marina asked, flabbergasted. "we think the three were being reckless with magic, but aiden says it happened when he was playing in the snow." amelia said. the three hufflepuff shook their heads before returning to the hunt for items.

after they had done everything amelia's mum had told them to, they went to look in shops for them. marina had some muggle money with her from her father, and couldn't wait to spend it.

"i only have galleons! damn muggle money!" hayden whispered sadly as they passed by a very pretty necklace in a store window. "come back this summer with muggle money, i'm sure it will still be there." amelia sighed. she nodded sadly.

they were passing one store and something caught marina's eye and she stopped walking. it was a beautiful charm necklace, with all the phases of the moon on it. it was practically yelling at her to buy it.

"look!" she hissed at the three, who quickly turned around and gasped at it. "you must buy it! look how gorgeous it is!" hayden exclaimed. marina glanced at the price and her face fell. it was over two hundred pounds!

"wow, that is a lot of money." amelia whispered. "it's fine! i'll come back this summer!" marina said calmly. "it looks quite popular." laura said, nodding her head to the people inside the store who were eyeing the necklace.

"it's fine, i don't need it." marina assured the group. they all looked at her with concern in their eyes, before turning around.

marina took a sad look at the necklace once more, before sadly shuffling away.
