Mitch's Johto Journey

The Living Tree

         " Oh, come on," Mitch shouts in an annoyed tone as a tree branch snags on his shirt sleeve. " This is the most cramped forest path I've ever been on and if it doesn't clear up soon I might have you burn through it with Ember," Mitch says while freeing his sleeve and looking down at Quilava. " Laaava," it nervously mumbles as the two of them continue down the path. Eventually, to the great relief of an environmentally friendly Quilava, the path begins to clear up and stops at a fork in the road with what appears to be a tree directly in the center of it. " According to the map, the Eastern path will just lead us back to Violet City, but the Northern path will lead us to Ecruteak City, so that's the path we'll take. We'll have to do something about that tree though," Mitch says as Quilava nods in understanding. They begin to walk towards the tree to see if there is anyway around it, but once they get closer they realize something, the tree is snoring. " Sud, Sud, Sud, Sud," it snores as Mitch and Quilava stare in slight shock.

        " Let's see what the Pokedex says about this thing," Mitch says as he pulls the mechanical encyclopedia out of his pocket. " Sudowoodo. the Imitation Pokémon, a Rock-type, it disguises itself as a tree to avoid attack. It hates water, so it will disappear if it starts raining." " Well if it doesn't like water, than I know the perfect way to get it out of our way. Croconaw, I choose you," he shouts as he tosses a Poke Ball forward. " Naw, Naw, Croconaw," it shouts as it lands in front of Sudowoodo and rubs the sleep out of its eyes. " Use Water Gun on that Sudowoodo," Mitch commands, but, upon hearing that command, the Sudowodo wakes up, summons a bunch of rocks out of thin air, and sends them towards Croconaw. Croconaw is unable to start its attack as the Rock Throw attack slams into it and causes it to fall backwards. " Woodo, Woodo, Sudo, Sudowoodo," the Sudowoodo angrily shouts as Croconaw lands on its butt in front of Mitch.

                  " Well, looks like we made it mad enough to fight. Croconaw attack with Dragon Claw," Mitch yells as Croconaw jumps back to its feet, with the claws on its right hand glowing purple and extending a little, and rushes towards Sudowoodo. " Sudoooooo," it cries as it slams its glowing white left leg into Croconaw's Dragon Claw. The Low Kick and Dragon Claw clash for about a minute before both Pokémon give up, but Mitch is ready. " Quick, use Bite on its leg while it's still recovering," he orders as Croconaw forcefully bites down on Sudowoodo's leg. " Woooodoooo," it screams in pain as it tries in vain to shake Croconaw off. " Now turn Bite into Ice Fang" Mitch hollers as Croconaw lets go of Sudowoodo's leg, coats its teeth in ice, and then bites back down on the leg. " Sudooooo," it cries as it tries to fight through the pain and succesfully manages to hit Croconaw directly on the head with Slam, forcing it to let go. " Naaaaaaaaaw," it cries as it stumbles backwards whilst holding its throbbing head. It falls to one knee as Mitch recalls it and brings out another Poke Ball.

             " Phanpy, finish what Croconaw started," Mitch exclaims as he throws the ball upwards. " Phan, Phan, Py, Phanpy," it cries as it lands in front of Sudowoodo and gives it a friendly wave using its trunk. " Woodo," Sudowoodo angrily shouts as a way to reject Phanpy's greeting before rushing forward with another Low Kick. " Protect yourself with Defense Curl," Mitch exclaims as Phanpy curls into a ball and Sudowoodo kicks it. Phanpy is sent rolling backwards by the attack, but is unhurt thanks to the Defense Curl, it stops rolling in a few feet in front of Mitch and uncurls. " Use Seed Bomb," Mitch orders as Phanpy fires the large seed made of dark green energy from its nose. " Sudooooo," it cries as it summons another Rock Throw and sends the rocks at the Seed Bomb. The two attacks collide and causes a small explosion that knocks both Pokémon back and damages them a little in the process. However, it would appear that Sudowoodo took the most damage from it as it struggles to get back up whilst Phanpy quickly jumps back to its feet. " Okay, use Take Down," Mitch orders as four bright red energy streaks surround Phanpy's body and it runs toward Sudowoodo.

          Sudowoodo recovers before Phanpy's Take Down has time to land and jumps out of the way of the attack while striking Phanpy on the back with Slam.  " Phaaaaaaanppppy," it cries as it rolls across the ground and stops in front of a bush. " Sudooooooo," it hollers as it runs towards Phanpy while charging up another Low Kick. " Counterattack with Bulldoze," Mitch commands as Phanpy's front legs glow light brown while it rears up on its back legs. " Phaaaaaaaaaaaanpyyyyyy," it screams as it slams its front legs down on the ground, sending a strong shockwave towards Sudowoodo. " Wooooooooodoooooo," it cries in a pained tone as the Super Effective move hits it head on, cancelling out its Low Kick in the process, and sends it  stumbling backwards. 

            A badly injured Sudowoodo stops stumbling in front of a tree and falls to the ground while struggling to maintain consciousness. " Come on, Poke Ball," Mitch exclaims as he throws an empty Poke Ball at the defeated Rock-type. The ball strikes Sudowoodo on the chest, sucks it inside, and begins to shake as Mitch, Phanpy, and Quilava stare at it in anticipation. Eventually, the capture noise goes off, allowing Mitch to walk over to the Poke Ball and use the P.C. button on his Pokedex to send his newly caught Sudowoodo to Professor Oak's lab. " That makes 11 Johto Pokémon," Mitch happily says whilst returning Phanpy to its ball. Mitch gives a knowing glance to Quilava and it knowingly nods back upon realizing what Mitch is thinking: it's time to get back on their journey to Ecruteak City.
