Mitch's Johto Journey

The Patient Protector

            With their adventures in Ecruteak behind them, Mitch and Quilava make their way through a small forest on their way to Olivine City. However, both of them having a strange feeling that has made the hair on the back of their necks stand up.  " You think something is watching us," he says as Quilava sniffs the air for a few minutes before growling at something hidden in the trees, " Quiiiiiillllllll." " Woooooooooobbbbbuuuuu," a large blue mass shouts whilst jumping out of from the trees and landing in front of them. " Fet, Fet, Wobbu, Wob," it hollers while spreading its arms in an attempt to block their way. " What's your problem," Mitch angrily asks as he grabs his Pokedex and Quilava growls before igniting its back flames. 

      " Wobbufet, the Patient Pokémon, a Psychic-type, to keep its pitch-black tail hidden, it lives quietly in the darkness. It is never first to attack." " Fet, Fet, Wobb, Fet, Wobbufet," it shouts in a determined tone while not letting Mitch and Quilava past it. " Well, if it's a fight you want, it's a fight you get! Aipom, I choose you," Mitch hollers while tossing a Poke Ball into the air. " Ai, Ai, Pom, Aipom," Aipom, who looks a little more confident than it did when Mitch first met it, cries as it lands on the ground in front of Wobbufet. " Alright, use Power-Up Punch," Mitch commands as the fist on Aipom's tail becomes surrounded by a golden aura while it jumps at Wobbufet and prepares to punch it. " Feeet," it mumbles as its body becomes outlined in bright red energy, causing Aipom's Power-Up Punch to bounce off of Wobbufet and hit Aipom instead. " Pooooooooom," it cries as it is knocked to the ground by its own attack. " That was Counter meaning Aipom got hit by a Power-Up Punch that was doubled in power," Mitch says as he sees that Aipom is still on the ground, clearly struggling to get up after being hit by its own move. 

       " Take a break, Aipom. Let's go, Spinarak," Mitch shouts while recalling Aipom and throwing another Poke Ball in Wobbufet's direction. " Rak, Rak, Spina, Spinarak," it mumbles while landing where Aipom once stood. " Use your Electroweb," he shouts as Spinarak fires a large web made of electricity from its mouth. " Wooooob," it whispers whilst its body becomes outlined by a pink aura. The Electroweb bounces off of Wobbufet and is flung back at Spinarak. " Spiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinaaaaaaaaaaaaa," it screams in a pained tone as the Electroweb shocks it. Eventually, the attack stops, the Electroweb disappears, and Spinarak drops to the ground with spirals in its eyes. " It knows Mirror Coat too!? How are we supposed to beat this thing when it has a way to throw both Physical and Special Attacks back at us at twice the power they would normally be?" 

     " Fet, Fet, Wobbu, Wobbufet," Wobbufet angrily shouts while running at them in a threatening way.  " Laaaaaaavaaaaaa," Quilava shouts as it blows a small Smokescreen into Wobbufet's face, forcing it to stop and rub its burning eyes. " That's it! You use a large Smokescreen to hide yourself from Wobbufet's view and then use random moves while hiding. That way, it won't be able to tell if you're about to use a Physical Move or a Special Move and won't know if it should use Counter or Mirror Coat," Mitch says as Quilava nods in agreement. Wobbufet finishes rubbing its eyes as Quilava fires off the Smokescreen, hiding itself from Wobbufet's view. " Feeeeeeet," it shouts in an anxious tone while desperately looking around in the smoke for any sign of Quilava. " Laaaaaaaavaaaa," it shouts as it slams into Wobbufet's right side with Flame Wheel, almost knocking it off of its feet. Quilava disappears back into the smoke as Wobbufet's begins to use Counter. A Lava Plume geyser, a Special Move that can't be stopped by Counter,  erupts from beneath Wobbufet and sends it flying high into the air. " Wooooooooooooob," it cries before landing face first on the ground just outside of the Smokescreen smoke cloud. 

     A badly injured Wobbufet gets to its feet and starts to use Mirror Coat in preparation for another Special Attack from Quilava.   " Laaaaaava," it cries as it lunges out of the smoke and slams into Wobbufet with Quick Attack. Mirror Coat can't stop the Quick Attack due to it being a Physical Attack, so Wobbufet is knocked backwards by it. " Feeeeeeet," it cries as it lands on its back with a loud thud and tries in vain to get back up. The smoke from the Smokescreen blows away, allowing Mitch to see that Wobbufet is pretty much defeated. " Okay, Poke Ball, g," Mitch's attempt to throw a Poke Ball at Wobbufet is stopped by something jumping out of the forest and standing protectively in front of it.

       " Wobbu, Wobbu, Fet, Wobbufet," a female Wobbufet, holding three eggs in her arms, pleads as Mitch and Quilava stare at her in surprise. The male Wobbufet manages to get back to his feet and tries, but fails to push his mate out of the way, he instead falls back down to the ground.  " Okay, I think I get it. You two were looking for a safe place to keep your eggs until they hatched and decided that this forest was a safe place. You though Quilava and I were a threat, so you decided to attack us in an attempt to drive us away," Mitch says as the female Wobbufet nods. Mitch walks up to the Wobbufet couple and heals the male with a Max Potion before helping him to his feet. " You two have nothing to worry about. We're not here to hurt your eggs, we're just trying to get to Olivine City, is it okay if we pass through the forest now," he asks as both Wobbufet nod their heads. " Alright then, good luck with your eggs," Mitch says as he and Quilava flash the Wobbufet couple friendly smiles before continuing on their journey. As the two of them walk, Mitch briefly looks back to see that the couple has disappeared back to the protection of the forest.
