" Olivine City," Mitch whispers to himself as Lapras slowly swims to the shore of Olivine. They reach the shore, Mitch jumps off of Lapras, and recalls it to its ball before turning around to see an old man sitting on a boulder. " Eat up Mantine, you'll need the energy for your daily swim" he says as he feeds Pokémon food to a Pokémon that Mitch has never seen before. " Mantine, the Kite Pokémon, a Water and Flying-type, if it builds up enough speed while swimming, it can jump out above the waves and glide for over 300 feet." The noise from the Pokédex catches the attention of both the man and the Mantine, which is visibly elderly as well. " Hello there! I'm Heming and this is Mantine, you look like a Pokémon trainer! Are you here to challenge Jasmine," he asks with a smile and a curious look on his face. " I'm Mitch and no, I already beat Jasmine, I'm just passing through on my way to the Mahogany Town Gym," he explains. " Well, I guess you'll want some training before challenging that gym! Mantine and I haven't had a battle in a long time. Would you like to train against us ,"he asks as he and Mantine get eager looks on their faces.

" You're on! And to make things as even as possible, I'll keep this battle in the water! Octillery, I choose you," Mitch shouts as he throws a Poké Ball towards the water. " Oct, Oct, Octillery, Lery, Oct," it cries as it lands in the water in front of Mantine. " Alright, let's get things started! Use Psybeam," Heming says as he gets to his feet and puts the Pokémon food away. " Maaaann," it moans as it fires a beam of pink energy from the space between its antennae. " Dodge it and attack with your Bullet Seed," Mitch orders as Octillery dives beneath the water and completely avoids the Psybeam. " Leeeeeeeeeryyyyyyyy," it exclaims as it jumps out from beneath the water and fires multiple seeds made of dark green energy from its mouth. " Tiiiiiiiiinnnne," it cries in a pained tone as the seeds explode on its back. " Let's show them our Bullet Seed," Heming yells as Mantine fires off its own dark green, energy seeds. " Oooooooooct," it cries as the seeds explode on its chest and, it was still in the air from using its Bullet Seed, knock it down into the water. " Great work, Mantine! Use Wing Attack now," Heming hollers as Mantine's wings glow white and it uses them to slap Octillery across the face. " Leeeeeeeeery," Octillery screams as the attack briefly knocks underwater.

" Fight back with Octazooka," Mitch commands as Octillery shakes off the pain from Mantine's attacks and spits a big ball of black ink from its mouth. " Maaaaaaaaaan," it cries as the ink explodes on its face and obscures its vision. " Now use Sludge Wave," Mitch shouts as one of Octillery's tentacles glow purple and it slams it on the water, sending a small wave of purple slime towards Mantine. " Mantine, get out of the way," Heming yells in a panicked tone. Mantine is so busy trying to rub the ink from the Octazooka off of its face that it doesn't hear Heming's command and the Sludge Wave slams into it. " Maaaaaaaaaan," it cries as it slammed against a small boulder by the attack. After recovering from the attack, Mantine immediately goes back to trying to rub the ink off. " Use Psybeam," Mitch hollers as Heming grits his teeth in slight frustration. " Oooooooocccccttt," it cries as it fires a beam of pink energy from its mouth. " Maaaaaaaaan," Mantine whimpers as the Psybeam slams into it.

However, the attack ends up knocking Mantine beneath the water, washing the ink off of its face. " Tiiiiiiiine," it happily cries as it jumps out of the water in celebration. " Perfect! Use Aerial Ace," Heming commands as Mantine begins to fly through the air at a high speed with several streaks of white energy surrounding its body. " Maaaaaaaaaaann," it screams as it slams into Octillery and knocks it backwards. " Ooooooooct," it cries as it is flung through the air for a few seconds and lands in the water with a loud splash. Mantine lands back in the water and begins to pant, its age is starting to affect it. " Use Bullet Seed," both trainers shout at the same time as their Pokémon fire the energy seeds from their mouths. The attacks collide and cause an explosion that knocks both Pokémon back a few feet. They both are slammed against boulders by the explosion, but Octillery recovers faster. " Use Rock Blast," Mitch orders as Octillery fires five large rocks, one right after the other, from its mouth. " Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan," Mantine cries as the rocks hit its body and shatter on impact. It then floats motionless in the water as spirals appear in its eyes.

Mitch recalls a victorious Octillery to its Poké Ball as Heming wades through the water to go check on Mantine. " Are you okay, my old friend," he says as he rubs its head and it openly its eyes whilst weakly smiling at him. " Here take this," Mitch yells as he throws a Max Revive at Heming. " Thank you," he shouts as he catches it and uses it on Mantine, healing it and restoring all of its energy. " You know, I actually use to be an extremely gifted Pokémon Trainer and Mantine was one of my strongest Pokémon. We even won a few league tournaments, but ended up being defeated by members of the Elite Four that we challenged. Guess we don't have it in us anymore," Heming says in a sad tone as Mantine sighs. " You kidding!? You were really give Octillery and I a run for our money, so you've still got a lot of fight left in ya! You know what: Mahogany Town can wait, come over here and tell me some stories about your Pokémon journey and I might even tell you some of my experiences," Mitch says as he sits down on a boulder. Heming and Mantine look at each other and smile before turning back to Mitch. " We would be happy to tell you," he proudly says as he makes his way over to Mitch.
