Poliwhirl's Crowning

  Mitch and his party ( Typhlosion, Gligar, Aipom, Donphan, Bayleef, Poliwhirl) have met up with Alexandra and her party ( Meganium, Furret, Magcargo, Corsola, Togetic, Ampharos) in a canyon a few miles outside the Ice Path and have set down for a lunch break with them. " So, I really thought we had won after Meganium had her Overgrow ability get activated, but his Piloswine ended up getting a lucky Critical Hit with Blizzard, which cost us the battle," Alexandra explains as Mitch listens carefully. " Well, given all the training you've told me you've been doing out here, you could easily go back to Mahogany Town and defeat him," Mitch replies as Poliwhirl, unbeknownst to everyone else, gets up as if sensing something and begins to rummage through a nearby rock pile. " I'm not sure. The Glacier Badge will become my eighth Johto gym badge if I win it, so I want to be as strong as possible before I go back," she explains before their conversation is interrupted by Poliwhirl. " Poli, Poli, Whirl, Poliwhirl, Poli," it shouts whilst holding up a rocky object that's shaped like a crown. 

  " What's that thing," Mitch asks before he takes his Pokédex out of his backpack. " King's Rock. If this item is held by a Pokémon than all of that Pokémon's moves have a chance of causing its opponent to flinch. It can also be used to make certain Pokémon evolve." " Poli," Poliwhirl grunts before its body begins to glow in a blinding white light.  " So Poliwhirl is one of the Pokémon that can evolve using this item? Guess this is another one of those evolutions that you can't get in Kanto," he says as the light fades away. " Poli, Poli, Toed, Politoed," the newly evolved Pokémon shouts as the King's Rock in its hand disintegrates. " Politoed, the Frog Pokémon, a Water-type, one of the evolved forms of Poliwhirl and one of the final evolved forms of Poliwag, they gather on moonlit nights to form a large chorus. Their cries sound angry and not at all pleasant, but they are certainly distinctive." 

   Alexandra stares at the newly evolved Politoed before an idea pops into her head and she eagerly grins. " So Mitch, you just got a new Pokémon and I've still looking for an excuse to train, would you and Politoed want to fight me and Corsola in an one on one battle," she asks as she and Corsola walk over to a part of the canyon that looks like a good place to battle in. Mitch looks at Politoed and it confidently smirks before nodding its head. " Let's do it than," he says as he and Politoed walk over to where Alexandra and Corsola are and stand a few feet away from them. " We'll start things off with Scald," she orders as Corsola releases a stream of smoking hot water from its mouth. " Dodge and then use Focus Punch," Mitch yells as Politoed ducks and the Scald harmlessly passes over it. " Tooooed," it quietly croaks whilst its right fist begins to glow white. 

    Politoed runs forward and tries to punch Corsola, but Alexandra shouts a command before it can. " Use Iron Defense and follow it up with Strength!" " Sollaa," Corsola whispers as its body becomes coated in a knight-like armor, preventing Focus Punch from causing it any harm. The armor quickly fades away from Corsola as its body becomes outlined by a light red aura. The aura causes Corsola's muscles to temporarily grow larger and allows it to , " Sooooooolaaaaaa," give Politoed a powerful punch to the face. " Poliiiiiiiiiii," it cries as it walks backwards and rubs the area of its face that was punched. " You got this, Politoed! Try Mud Bomb," Mitch shouts before Politoed spits a large ball of mud from its mouth. " Coooooooorr," Corsola cries as the mud explodes in its face and knocks it against. However, it quickly recovers and rushes back to its original position. " You're doing great, Corsola! Use Ice Beam!" " Ccccccooorrrr," it shouts whilst firing a medium sized beam of ice from its mouth. A strange idea pops into Mitch's head before he shouts a command at Politoed, " Use Liquidation on the Ice Beam!" " Toooeddd," it says in a questioning tone as a sword made of water appears in its right hand and it slams the sword against the Ice Beam, freezing it. 

   " Now use that frozen sword on Corsola," Mitch shouts as Politoad slams the sword over Corsola's head, shattering the sword and leaving Corsola in a dazed state. " Cooor, Ooooorrr, Ooolaaaa," it grumbles as it stumbles around and tries to regain its senses. " Let's give the move you learned when you evolved a try! Bounce," Mitch exclaims before Politoed jumps high into the air. " Toooooooedddd," Politoed shouts as it quickly descends and slams feet first into Corsola, knocking it into the dirt. Politoed jumps off of Corsola and it lies motionless on the ground. " Oh, we're not done here yet! Use Aqua Ring," Alexandra yells as a ring of water appears around Corsola and heals it a little, allowing it to stand back up. " And now use Power Gem," she orders as Corsola fires a beam of dark brown energy from the horn on its forehead. " Poooooliii," Politoed groans as the attack hits it in the chest and pushes it back a few feet. " Use Focus Punch," MItch yells as Aqua Ring starts to heal Corsola some more. " Pooooooliiiii," it shouts as it punches the still healing Corsola in the face. " Cooooooooooooorrr," it screams as the attack knocks it across the ground. It lands in front of a stump and groans, " Soolaaa," before spirals appear in its eyes. 

  Instead of celebrating his victory with Politoed, Mitch walks over to Corsola and heals it with a Max Revive. " Coooorr," it says as a thank you whilst Mitch pats it on the head. " Nonstop switching between attacking moves and defensive moves like Iron Defense and Aqua Ring was a great strategy! You should really try that against Pryce," he says. " I think I will, but before anything I think I need some more lunch, that battle took a lot out of me," she says with a chuckle as her stomach grumbles.
