Lighthouse Showdown

            A view of Olivine City's Glitter Lighthouse is shown before it pans inside to reveal Mitch, Jasmine, and Typhlosion in an elevator. The elevator opens and they walk out into the lantern room of the lighthouse. However, a Pokémon stands where the light would normally stand. " Good Morning, Amphy," Jasmine says as the Pokémon turns and gives her a friendly smile. " Am, Am, Pharos, Ampharos," it happily cries as it walks up to Jasmine and gives her a hug whilst Mitch scans it on the Pokédex. " Ampharos, the Light Pokémon, an Electric-type, the evolved form of Flaaffy and the final evolved form of Mareep, the bright light on its tail can be seen from very far away. It has been treasured since ancient times as a beacon."  

       " What your Pokédex says is true. Amphy is a member of a long line of Ampharos that have been used as beacons to help guide ships to Olivine at night and they've been in use since the city's founding. In more recent generations, the ownership of the Ampharos has fallen upon the Olivine City Gym Leader meaning that Amphy is my Pokémon. As a Steel-type Gym Leader, I don't use it in any gym battles, but I do like to invite trainers to the lighthouse from time to time in order for them to test its strength," Jasmine explains. " And you invited me here because you want me to be the next one to battle it," Mitch says as Jasmine grins. " Yep! So, are you in," she asks as Amphy confidently smirks and makes some electricity surge through its body. 

       " You bet," Mitch hollers as Typhlosion prepares to walk forward, but is stopped by Mitch putting his hand up. " You got to battle three of Jasmine's Pokémon yesterday. I want to give someone else a try," he says while holding up a Poké Ball. " Tyyyy," it reluctantly grunts before stepping back to its original position and allowing Mitch to throw the ball into the air. " Rita, Rita, Chik, Chikorita, Rita," Chikorita cries as it lands in front of Amphy with a snobby look on its face.  " Use Vine Whip," Mitch orders as two green vines lash out from tiny holes in Chikorita's neck. " Dodge that and attack using Iron Tail," Jasmine hollers as Amphy jumps over the vines, coats its tail in metal, and slams it against Chikorita's body. " Chiiiiiiikkkkk," it cries as it is knocked against the wall, but quickly gets back on its feet. " Body Slam," Mitch mumbles as Chikorita jumps into the air and lands on top of Amphy's head with all of its body weight. " Ammmph," it cries as it is left temporarily dazed by the attack, giving Chikorita another opportunity to attack.

       " Attack with Magical Leaf," Mitch orders as Chikorita summons a bunch of sharp, dark green leaves out of thin air and sends them at Amphy. " Roooooooooos," Amphy cries as the leaves slice across its body. " Stay strong, Amphy! Use Thunderbolt," Jasmine shouts as Amphy shakes off the pain from the Magical Leaf. " Ammmmmmmmmphaaaaaaaroooooooosssss," it cries as its body surges with electricity and it fires a medium sized bolt of yellow electricity from the center of its chest. " Ritaaaaaaaaaaa," it screams as the Thunderbolt shocks it and briefly knocks it to its knees. " Chikorita, use Vine Whip," Mitch says as the vines lash out from the tiny holes in Chikorita's neck and begin to repeatedly slap Amphy across the face. " Am, Am, Pharos, Am, Am, Pharos, Pharos, Am," it groans in a pained tone whilst taking more and more damage from the attack. Eventually, the assault stops and Chikorita begins to pull its vines back into its body. " Quick, use Signal Beam," Jasmine shouts as Amphy fires a beam of yellowish green energy from the orb on the tip of its tail. " Ritaaaaaaaaaaaa," it screams as the Super Effective move slams into its body, it managed to pull its vines back in before the attack landed, and slams it into the wall. The force of the impact is so powerful that it leaves a large indentation in the wall,  Chikorita falls to the ground and lies there motionless with its eyes closed. 

           Jasmine is about to declare herself the winner of the battle when Chikorita's body starts to glow in a blinding white light, forcing everyone present to shield their eyes. Eventually, the glowing stops and, " Baaaaaaaaaaaay," Mitch's newly evolved Bayleef fires a ball of light green energy from its mouth. " Ammmmmmphaaaroos," Amphy cries as Bayleef's newly learned Energy Ball hits it in the face, explodes, and causes it to fall down on one knee. "Amazing! I've faced many opponents whose Pokémon evolved during my battles with them, but I've never had somebody who got two two completely separate evolutions while facing me! Between Bayleef and Typhlosion, you've had some great luck," Jasmine congratulates as Mitch nervously sweat drops. " Yeah, I guess you can say that my luck is like a suit of armor," he chuckles while rubbing the back of his head. " Well, let's see how far that luck gets you! Ready, Amphy," she says as Amphy looks up at Bayleef and gives it a confident smirk, Bayleef returns the look. " Use Dragon Pulse, " Use your new move again! Energy Ball," both trainers simultaneously shout as a big ball of purple energy forms in between Amphy's hands and it throws it towards Bayleef, who fires the Energy Ball at the attack. The two attacks pass by each other and prepare to slam into the opposing Pokémon, but Amphy manages to dodge the Energy Ball at the last second. 

         " Baaaaaaaayyyy," Bayleef cries as the Dragon Pulse hits it in the chest, explodes, and sends it skidding backwards on its feet. It manages to stop before hitting the wall as Amphy readies itself for another command. " Use another Signal Beam," Jasmine order whilst Amphy fires the attack from the orb at the tip of its tail. " Jump and use Body Slam," Mitch shouts as Bayleef summons the strength to jump over the attack and land on top of Amphy with all of its weight. "Ammph,"it grunts as Bayleef pins it to the floor. " Vine Whip," Mitch shouts whilst the two vines lash out of the tiny holes in Bayleef's neck and begin to once against slap Amphy across the face repeatedly. " Ammmmm, Pharooosss, Phaaaa, Ammmm," it loudly groans as the vines cause it more and more pain. " Use Thunderbolt to get it off of you," Jasmine hollers as Amphy's body surges with electricity and it fires the medium sized lightning bolt from its chest. " Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay," Bayleef cries as the attack gives it a severe shock and causes it to stumble backwards, freeing Amphy. " Hit it with Signal Beam before it has time to recover," she commands as Amphy fires the beam of yellowish green energy from its tail orb.

             The Signal Beam slams into Bayleef just as the Thunderbolt assault stops and knocks it against the wall. " Baaayyyyyy," it grunts as it falls to the ground and struggles to get back up. " Amphy, finish this with," Jasmine's sentence is interrupted by Bayleef quickly jumping back to its feet. " Baaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyleeeeeeeef," it roars as its body starts glowing light green. " Looks like somebody's ability has been activated," Mitch says as he uses the Pokédex to see what ability this is. " Overgrow. This ability is activated when a Pokémon's HP is low. It greatly increases the power of Grass-type moves." " Well, in that case, use Energy Ball," Mitch screams as Bayleef fires the ball of light green energy, which is double the size it would normally be, from its mouth. " Phaaaaaarooooooooos," Amphy loudly exclaims in a pained tone as the boosted move hits it in the chest and explodes, flinging it backwards. It lands on its belly in front of the lighthouse windows and lets out a quiet " Ammmph," before spirals appear in its eyes.

          " Bayyy," a victorious Bayleef huffs as its Overgrow boost fades away and Mitch runs over and gives it a hug. " Baaaayyyyyy," it groans before it reluctantly returns the hug. " An evolution and an ability in the same battle!? I definitely wouldn't have expected that," he happily shouts. " Yeah, that luck of yours really is like armor," Jasmine, who healed Amphy with a Max Revive, says while walking up to them. " I guess it is and I really hope it helps me out in my Gym Battle against Chuck," he says. " Well, Chuck's a powerful battler, so you're going to need it. Good luck," she says with a kind smile that he returns.
