The Lake Chomper

A view of a bright and sunny day is shown before it pans down to reveal Mitch and Cyndaquil, who appear to be in a very joyful mood after winning their first Johto gym badge, walking down a large dirt path with a large lake (a large number of fisherfolk are fishing from it) on one side and a thick forest on the other side. Suddenly, the peace is broken by a loud and angry scream.

" Son of a slippery Seel! That little punk bit my last line in two! I'm done with this lake, I'll take my business somewhere else," a large fisherman, red in the face from anger, shouts as he puts all his fishing supplies into a backpack and angrily stomps off. It would appear that multiple other fisherfolk feel the same way that he does as they begin to pack up their things and leave. " Sad thing, isn't it? This place has been a very popular fishing spot for decades, but ever since that pesky Totodile showed up and starting biting people's lines in two, it's becoming less and less popular," an old and melancholy voice says from behind Mitch and Cyndaquil. They turn around to see a very old fisherman (he looks like the design of the fishermen from the Generation 2 games, but much older and with a short white beard) and a small round and blue mouse-like Pokémon standing there. " I'm Wayde and this is Marill, we've lived around this lake for 30 years (how his Marill has not evolved into an Azumarill in 30 years is a mystery even the author doesn't know) and we've spent a majority of that time fishing and swimming in it. It greatly saddens us to see so many people turning their backs on it," Wayde says as Marill sadly mumbles, " Mar, Mar, Ill,"" in agreement.

" Marill, the Aqua Mouse Pokémon, a Water and Fairy type, Marill's oil-filled tail acts much like a life preserver. If you see just its tail bobbing on the water's surface, it's a sure indication that this Pokémon is diving beneath the water to feed on aquatic plants." " I'm Mitch and this is Cyndaquil. You said something about a Totodile, what's going on there," Mitch asks as he slides his Pokedex back into his pocket. " Well, a few months ago, a wild Totodile moved into the lake and ever since then it has been going around biting poles in two and we don't know why. We don't know if it's doing it for fun, doing it out of spite, or doing it to protect the other Pokémon in the lake, but it sure has caused quite the ruckus." Mitch gives a knowing glance to Cyndaquil and it nods. He turns back to Wayde and says " Don't worry, we'll get this lake back to the way it used to be. We'll get rid of that Totodile!" " How do you plan to do that young man?" Mitch begins to think and after a few minutes, something finally comes to his mind. " This may be a long shot, but it's all that I can think of right now. Heracross, I choose you!"

" Hera, Hera, Cross, Heracross," it shouts as it materializes in front of Mitch and flexes its muscles. It then sees Marill and prepares to get into a battle stance before being stopped by Mitch, " Hold up, you're not here to fight Marill, you're here for something else," he explains as it gets a disappointed look on its face and crosses its arms. " Wayde, does Marill know any moves that could murk up the water and cloud Totodile's vision?" " Yes? Do you need us to use it?" " Yeah, aim towards that spot," Mitch says while pointing at a deep part of the lake close to shore. " Alright? Marill, I know it has been a little while, but use your Mud Shot attack," Wayde commands as Marill shoots multiple large balls of mud out of its mouth. The mud balls hit the part of the lake that Mitch was pointing at and cloud up the water as he yells, " Heracross, dip your horn into that muddy water and wait!" " Crossssssss," it says in a questioning and confused tone before it sees the serious look in Mitch's face. " Heraa," it says in an annoyed tone as it walks over to the muddy water and sticks its horn in it.  " Oh, I see. You wanted the horn of your Heracross to look like a fishing line and you couldn't do that unless you made it harder for Totodile to see," Wayde realizes as Mitch nods in response. " Now all we have to do is wait," Mitch says as he sits down on the ground and begins to relax.

Around 30 minutes have passed and Heracross has slowly gotten more and more annoyed. " Heracross, Cross, Cross, Hera, Heracross, Hera, Hera,"(Translation: I should be beating something's face in right now, instead I'm being used for something that barely counts as a sport), it thinks to itself before it feels a sharp pain in its horn. " Croooooosssssss," it shouts as it quickly pulls its horn out of the water, catching the attention of a now half-asleep Mitch, Cyndaquil, Wayde, and Marill, and something is attached to it. " Totoooo," a confused Totodile shouts as it lets go of the horn and lands on the ground of front of Heracross.  However, instead of attacking, Totodile lazily lies down on its side, yawns, and begins to draw a line through the dirt with one of its claws. " Whaaaat," " Cyndaaaa," " Maaaaarillll," " Heraaaa," they all shout in shock. Totodile looks at them and lazily waves before going pack to drawing lines in the dirt. " Are you telling me that the only reason that you were biting lines in two, was because YOU WERE BORED," Wayde yells as Mitch, Cyndaquil, Heracross, and Marill sweat drop. Totodile briefly looks up at him and lazily nods before it rolls over on its and looks at the sky. A furious Wayde turns to Mitch and says, " would you please get this thing out of my sight!"

" No problem. Poke Ball, Go," Mitch yells as he throws an empty Poke Ball at the lounging Totodile. The ball hits Totodile on the belly, sucks it inside, and......... doesn't even shake: the capture noise goes off immediately. Wayde and Marill breathe a sigh of relief as Mitch walks up the Poke Ball, picks it up, (he returns Heracross as well), and puts it on his belt before walking back over to Wayde. " Thank you for your help. I'll spread the word that the pesk that was bothering everyone is gone and hopefully everyone will return to the lake." " I sure hope they do, but I have absolutely no clue what I'm going to do with a Totodile that is this lazy," Mitch says as everyone else laughs and he gets an annoyed look on his face.
